“You brought me out into a spacious place; you rescued me because you delighted in me."" (Psalm 18:19)
""Give ear and come to me, hear me that your soul may live.” (Isaiah 55:3)
“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” (Mary Oliver, poet)

These three brief phrases form a useful framework for my understanding of spiritual formation and the practice of spiritual direction. God delights in each one of us, longs for fellowship with us, and wants us to live more fully into the callings and gifts He has for us. Spiritual direction is a deliberate relationship of listening to and walking with another as he/she seeks to know Christ and hear the whisperings of the Holy Spirit. It isn’t about giving advice or problem solving, but recognizing what God is already saying and doing in our lives. The one who directs should, in the most gracious and humble way, use their giftedness to point others to the fullness of God.

My personal journey of spiritual formation began in a church-going family and was deepened through InterVarsity in college and at Regent College in Vancouver, BC. I am a family physician (working part-time) and spent 9 years in Nepal so have a heart for missionaries and body/spirit connections. My training in spiritual direction is through the Sursum Corda program (Episcopal) and I have also studied under various Jesuits and at Loyola House in Guelph, Ontario, including training in offering the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. My approach to spiritual direction is largely Ignatian. I am a member and an elder at Blacknall Presbyterian Church in Durham, North Carolina

God's deep desire is to be with us, right where we are, before we fix or change the things we don't like or think we should have already done. So in Spiritual Direction, we listen. Your task is noticing with loving attention what you're thinking, feeling, hoping, worrying about, focusing on as you move through your days. And noticing with that same gentleness and loving attention how it is with you and God. Don't worry about expectations for yourself or judging your "performance". That noticing is at the heart of Spiritual Direction.

What we are seeking together in Spiritual Direction is a direct experience between you and God. Although my presence, questions, silence, and input are important, the most vital part of direction is you hearing from and experiencing God directly.

My style as a director is focused on grace and gentleness. I've had one of my directees describe her time with me as "guided meditation," and another as a place to process - but my style adjusts to each person I sit with. Jesus’s words from Matthew 11 fit what I’ve experienced in Spiritual Direction:
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (msg)

I attend a Mennonite Church in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood, where a majority of our members are foreign-born. I have been a part of an eclectic array of denominations and I value the strength and charism each brings to the body of Christ. I worked with refugees in the US for more than 13 years and I love cross cultural relationships. I studied Spiritual Direction at North Park Seminary’s Center for Spiritual Direction and have been offering Spiritual Direction since 2011. I am open to new direectees.

My husband and I have been married since 2008 and we have two young children.

Noticing God in everyday spaces has deepened my personal journey. Helping others experience God through Spiritual Direction & retreats brings great joy.

"Alongside, helping others notice God", is my personal motto. I value the gift of receiving and offering Spiritual Direction and soul care retreats for individuals, our organization and church.

My husband and I have served internationally with One Challenge for 35+ years, 20 of which were based in Southern Africa. Currently I live in Colorado Springs where I invest in our 3 adult kids, their well-suited spouses, 6 grandchildren and friends.

It brings me deep joy to share about the transformative power of traditional contemplative spiritual practices in the life of the Believer because I have experienced it myself! Although Spiritual Direction is my first love, I am also trained as a Certified Pre-Marital Coach, Motions of the Soul Enneagram Coach, a Certified Strengths-Based Coach, and am pursuing a Master of Divinity through Kairos University with an emphasis on Spiritual Formation. I have spent years utilizing my experience as a busy, Mother of 11 to support and encourage fellow Foster and Adoptive families in their search to find peace and balance by offering educational opportunities and spiritual retreats. My journey as an Adoptive Mom has provided rich opportunities to learn about complex family structures, trauma, mental health issues, neurodivergence, addiction, and caring for people with life-altering illnesses~ and all the complexities that come with learning how to live, thrive and love well as we share our heart with people who face these types of struggles.

I'm wife, mom, and stepmom.

I’m a certified Spiritual Director with the Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction and a student in the Masters of Theology program at St. Stephens University with Dean Bradley Jersak.

I am forever grateful to my high school physics teacher Bob Kitson. He told me about Jesus.

Most of my growing and becoming has come through unlearning. I'm certain of less and sure of more.

These days, I call myself a contemplative charismatic, someone who values life in Spirit and embraces practices across time and tradition.

I believe God heals body, soul, and spirit--in a moment and over time. This, mostly, is my charismatic part.

I'm an INFJ and Enneagram 4. Please don't hold it against me.

Over 30 years, I've listened and prayed with hundreds of people on their healing journeys. I love to create safe, sacred spaces and facilitate transformational encounters with Jesus.

I'm founder and director of Roots&Branches Network, a citywide listening and healing prayer ministry in Cincinnati, Ohio.

I have the honor of speaking to, equipping and mentoring groups and individuals on a regular basis.

Of course, the real ‘director’ is God the Holy Spirit, who initiates and inspires an ever-deepening relationship with the Trinity. He is also the one that helps individuals develop a relationship with themselves and with others in their community. It is a beautiful thing to help people to dive deeper into prayer and draw closer to God in everyday life, and in the midst of difficulties, discover God’s care. It is a wonderous thing to see directees become aware of the sacred within the ordinary events of life and have them honestly share with God their feelings, doubts and questions. All within a safe, confidential space created in an atmosphere of prayer. It is a pleasure to see people become more like Christ and experience the fruits of the Spirit and move into a grace-full life of love and service.

I came to the US at an early age from El Salvador and I am fully bilingual in Spanish. I have been able provide spiritual direction to people from various countries who now live and minister in the U.S.

Trained through Denver Seminary’s Spiritual Direction Certification Program in Colorado, I offer direction to both individuals and groups. While I’ve worked as an ordained minister, chaplain, marriage and family therapist, and professor the thread of meaning woven through all of these jobs has been the joy of helping people experience how God can meet them in their deepest needs. I have a special place in my heart for those who care for others. Hence, I feel called to care for the caregiver.

In terms of how I understand the ministry of spiritual direction, I resonate very much with the words of Gordon T. Smith: “A Spiritual Director offers spiritual guidance and companionship to help make sense of our faith journey, interpret the significant markers along the way, and encourage us, particularly through the more difficult transitions and valleys of our pilgrimage.” This is precisely what I hope to offer my directees.

Being able to pray with you and for you in your journey as you notice God in big and small ways is a gift that I do not take for granted.

In 25 years of ministry experience, leading prayer groups and bible studies, I have met with women from all ages and types of backgrounds. God gave me a desire to serve in a new way through spiritual direction. He has used spiritual direction to bring clarity, hope, peace, and a deeper relationship with Him. Being able to notice where God is and what he is saying has been transforming in my life.

I completed my spiritual direction certification through Christos. I own a bookstore and I love to travel, play with my grandchildren, read and have people over to sit on my back deck.

Spiritual Formation, the slowest movement on Earth, is only labeled this way because there is an ample time invested in its practice and exploration. As a former spiritual director at Biola University, I run with the notion that God has already been working in the person's life before we begin our meetings. Our task is to explore events and come to discovery of what God has been doing in the midst of all our struggles, trials, and honest mistakes/effort. Being willing to go deep to explore our own past may provide us with some insight into what God is doing in our present circumstances. I partner with directees to identify what is going on in their lives and help discover what the Holy Spirit longs to reveal to the person about themselves and their walk with God. I choose the position of empowering the directee to more effectively tell their own stories as we begin to explore life with God.

As a trained diversity ambassador and missionary educator from Azusa Pacific University, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings helping international students discover truth about the Bible and the basic tenets of the Gospel message. 20 years in education has enabled me to develop a strong sense of self in teaching and has also alerted me to my own inner desire to help mentor others in order to become their better selves. I now have made it a personal goal to be a better listener to the thoughts, feelings, and attitudes of the heart in order to more properly understand someone's experience with God. This "tuning-in" has become a base position for helping others grow in their awareness of themselves with God.

As an Asian American, I have also had some exposure to exploring my own past to discover the way Honor/Shame has largely influenced and somewhat discolored my own image of who I was in Christ. With my own discovery about ways of being in my culture, I have found it helpful to focus on the love of God to determine a more balanced understanding of how I am accepted in Christ, and having this mindset helps me as I begin to help others who might have similar areas of trauma with guilt and shame. Although this is not my main ministerial duty in spiritual direction, I do hope to show sensitivity whenever I find this relevant to the directee's own story.
In the end, I serve to promote wellness in the way of exploring life honestly with God. As we begin, I pray that you may be led with courage to find the right spiritual director for you, and if I can serve that purpose, I hope that our paths would cross soon.

I have over 25 years of varied ministry experiences -- I served the gamut from intern to lead pastor, from leading teams in a large church to working bi-vocationally in a new church plant, and both as a board member and a full-time employee in a non-profit. For over a decade I have given my life to helping women and men feel seen, heard, and known. It has been an honor to journey with people through some of their darkest moments.

I am a trained Spiritual Director with an MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care and an MA in Christian Leadership and Ministry from Biola's Talbot Theological Seminary.

I currently practice individual and group spiritual direction in the Long Beach and Orange County area and enjoy being with others as a Staff Director at Talbot Seminary.

My heart and passion is to help people grow in God, come out of hiding, and to live with meaning and purpose. I have served in many capacities in the local church and beyond. I have been a pastor’s wife for over fourteen years, in full time ministry for several years, and have invested so much of my strength into the betterment of God’s people.

I love offering spiritual companionship and a safe space for those who need a refuge. I have led many retreats, camps, spoken at church services nationally and internationally, mentored young girls, and have empowered women from all walks of life to discover the beauty of their true selves. My sweet spot in ministry and direction has been with those who have traumatic experiences, deep insecurities, guilt or shame, and those living in darker days.

Hi I'm Paul! I am a 31-year-old Korean American male currently living in Orange County, California. Formerly, I have worked very closely with the local church as a college and youth pastor for about 8 years cumulatively. I am also a graduate from Talbot's Institute of Spiritual Formation Program-- where I first started my spiritual direction journey. Throughout the years I've worked primarily with college students and young adults, helping them to navigate how God is speaking and taking action within their respective seasons of life. If I were to describe my spiritual direction style, I'd say that I'm deeply caring and constructively concrete. I seek to do everything with compassion and simply listen to whoever is in front of me, while also seeking to encourage and fully ground that person in whatever process they are going through. My ministry of spiritual direction was born out of a vision of God’s ongoing hospitality to us, which He invites us to experience as we open our souls in hospitality to Him. When I offer spiritual direction, it is about setting a table for us and God, providing space to come as we are to talk with and direct our gazes to Jesus – the one who sees us, loves us, knows us, and sustains us.

My prayer for my directees, is that they too would “taste and see that the Lord is good”, experience the grace of His presence, and know increasingly what it is to “dwell in the house of the Lord” together.

I love to hold space for people as they reflect on the journey of their souls. God won my heart over 30 years ago during a particularly difficult time in my life. Ever since I have been drawn to conversations exploring where God intersects with the joys and challenges of real life. In 2016, I began having these conversations as a spiritual director.

I believe each of us is God’s beloved and the spiritual journey is primarily a journey of allowing the love of God to find its way into deeper and deeper parts of our heart. My joy is to provide a safe environment to engage with God right where you are. No performing, no pat answers. Just making holy space for you and God.

I am a Seattle native who graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Psychology and Speech Communications. I received my spiritual direction training through SoulFormation’s Academy and School of Spiritual Direction and am an active member of their community of spiritual directors. I also offer supervision to spiritual directors and facilitate Space for God retreats. My husband and I live in community near the University of Washington campus and have 3 grown/almost-grown kids.

It is my passion and calling to journey with Christ followers and care for them through prayerful listening. Together we discern the presence of God in their lives. I desire to and am delighted to see the fruit of spiritual direction by the work of the Holy Spirit demonstrated in the directee’s growth in prayer life, openness to God and in embracing who they are in Christ.

Born and raised in Hong Kong, I have been residing in Pasadena, California with my husband for almost 30 years during which time I had served in our home church in children, youth, young adults and church board ministries. This gave me an insight into the challenges faced by and the deep longing of serious followers of Christ and church leaders. I have cross-cultural ministry experiences and speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin. We are proud grandparents of two beautiful kids.

I received my training in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care at Talbot School of Theology and I currently serve as staff spiritual director at Biola University.
