My passion is to walk alongside those who want to experience deeper spiritual transformation in Christ. In Spiritual Direction, we create space together to be curious about God's movement in the Directee's life. Whether a Directee is just beginning their spiritual journey, growing deeper in new ways, or deconstructing old beliefs, Spiritual Direction is a time set aside from the bustle of life, to hear and discern what the Lord has to say.

God has created each of us as his Beloved, uniquely gifted child. Created in His image, we have a divine purpose that only we can fulfill. He is always inviting us into a deeper relationship with Himself and as we learn more about Him, we learn more about our true selves. In turn, as we learn more about our authentic selves, we learn more about God. Through spiritual practices such as Lectio Divina, Visio Divina, Ignatian prayer, breath prayers, nature walks, centering prayer and Immanuel journaling - we can connect our head, heart, body and spirit to hear God's voice in fresh ways.

I received my Spiritual Director's training through Denver Seminary's Christian Formation and Soul Care program and have been a Spiritual Director since 2013. I am also a certified Enneagram coach through Jerome Wagner's Enneagram Spectrum Training.

Cofounder of CHAPELWOOD-Soul Restoration Project©, a retreat ministry in northern Vermont, primarily intended for those in Christian ministry but open to all who are seeking an opportunity for spiritual retreat, rest, and restoration. CHAPELWOOD provides respite, encouragement, and training to individuals, couples, and small groups.

I hold a Bachelor’s (Psychology), a Master’s (Theology), and a Doctorate (Spiritual Direction). Completed SoulFormation's Academy of Spiritual Formation and Direction (2nd Cohort), under the auspices of the NW District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA).

Ordained by the C&MA, I serve as Pastor of Care at Essex Alliance Church. I also provide individual spiritual direction on a limited basis and occasionally serve as a retreat facilitator.

Married, to Christine for 46 years. We have three adult children and five grandchildren.

Christina Wilking serves as a spiritual director in Charlotte, NC. She is a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University majoring in Business Administration. While attending Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary she discovered her calling to become a spiritual director. She received her training through the Fairfield University four- year Spiritual Direction Formation Program. Christina also has received a Certificate from Sustainable Faith in Spiritual Direction Supervisory Training.

I served nearly 20 years on staff in a local church creating spiritually formative spaces for both children and adults. Along the way, I obtained an M.A. in Ministry and, with my husband, parented two children. My life was busy! I loved the busy life! Turns out, I loved it too much…

Exhaustion, in many forms, led me to Spiritual Direction. There I found the unhurried rhythms of sacred conversation which soothed my soul. Encountering the Spirit of God in this contemplative way opened my eyes and set my heart on fire. I now live a yielded life - anchored by hope, held by the embrace of mercy and grace, breathing deeply in a spacious place.

Following a season of rest and reflection, God has reoriented me. Contemplative practices like silence, nature walks, and breath prayers keep me rooted in one great love. These days, I sometimes have more questions than answers, more wonder than words. And I’m comfortable with that – content to be a beloved daughter journeying deeper into the heart of God.

In this new season of life, I have become a certified Spiritual Director myself so that I can better companion others on the journey. Some of my favorite authors from the contemplative realm are Henri Nouwen, Ruth Haley Barton, and Robert Mulholland. One last thing…the Enneagram and its potential for spiritual growth fascinates me. (I’m a 1w9).

I grew up in Southern California and graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder. I served in the ministry of Cru/Campus Crusade for Christ for 22 years, ministering to college students and business professionals along Colorado's Front Range. I received a certificate in Spiritual Direction from Denver Seminary (a two-year program, 2002), and later earned a Masters in Christian Formation and Soul Care also from Denver Seminary (2009). In addition, I have completed a three-year program (earning another certificate) in Spiritual Direction from the Lanteri Center for Ignatian Spirituality in Denver, Colorado (2013). I also have completed formational training at the Lanteri Center to accompany individuals praying with the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises (2015). In more recent years, I have participated in numerous training in supervision through both the Lanteri Center and Denver Seminary. I also am committed to ongoing supervision myself and continuing education and formation in this ministry.

I attend Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette, Colorado, and serve on the prayer team, and have participated in both local and international ministry. I am grateful to be married to my husband Andy, and enjoy our three adult children and their spouses.

As far as how I came to this ministry, after being a Christian for many years, I became restless in my faith. The ways that I approached God that served me so well for so long were not as meaningful. I possessed a strong biblical foundation and an intellectual faith that are formative and essential, yet I realized that I was not experiencing the level of relational intimacy with God that I desired and observed in others. Some have described what I was experiencing as having a head but not a heart relationship with God. Spiritual direction is a relational practice that has helped me to relate to God more holistically with both my mind and my emotions.

I offer spiritual direction and practice this ministry as a part of Christian formation, soul care, and transformation in the journey of a Christ follower.

We live in a culture with many voices competing for our attention. Spiritual direction is a place of refreshing hospitality where we are given the gift of a set-aside time and space to prayerfully listen to God with the companionship and support of a spiritual director. Healthy spiritual direction supports our own relating with God. We return to the activities and relationships God has given us better attuned to him. It is a joy and privilege to offer this special kind of prayerful companionship and hospitality to others.

I received formal training at the Institute for Spiritual Formation, Talbot School of Theology, Biola University earning a master's degree in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care and have been practicing formal direction since 2004. I served as Associate Director of Supervision & Practice and Senior Faculty for Selah a two-year certificate training program for spiritual directors from 2007 until 2017, when I resigned to reduce my travel and focus on private practice.

I have lived in many parts of the U.S. and abroad. As a result, I enjoy praying with individuals from all backgrounds and cultures. Prior to my seminary studies, I was actively engaged in training and equipping worship leaders and ministry teams for service as Vice President of Training for Maranatha! Music. These years of serving Christian leaders from a variety of backgrounds in a variety of contexts have given me special appreciation for the breadth and diversity of the Body of Christ. I have a deep-seated desire to see others live from a place of freedom, health and trust in God as they image him in their own unique ways in the special contexts and circumstances of their lives.

I frequently offer contemplative spiritual direction and supervision to other spiritual directors, counseling and ministry professionals who have found it difficult to find a director committed to contemplative practice. I offer in-person and on-line spiritual direction and supervision as well as individual and group day retreats from my home in West Chicago, IL and from the Tau Center in Wheaton, IL. My home has a prayer and worship room open to house guests, a place where directees often enjoy some time settling in before our times of formal spiritual direction begin.

I have spent my career as a family medicine physician which has allowed me to walk with many individuals through the happy and sad seasons of life. My Christian faith has always been a part of my medical practice and praying with patients and listening to their spiritual struggles has been a frequent experience. When I learned about the practice of spiritual direction, it became a regular part of my own spiritual formation but also something I wanted to do. Walking with individuals through their spiritual journey has been a gift from God to my life and I value these sacred moments of helping others notice God’s activity in their own life.
I have been married for 41 and have 4 married children with 9 grandchildren. God’s faithfulness has been apparent in our families life as we have walked through seasons of great happiness but also grief and loss.

I’m so glad you are here! Several years ago, I found myself in a difficult season, one that left me overwhelmed and under joyed. Maybe you’ve experienced seasons like that too. While that season was one of frustration and pain, it also led me to become a spiritual director through Sustainable Faith. Allowing myself and others to practice the art of slowing down, being present, and giving space to wonder and wander.

Over these past few years, I’ve come to realize the mountain top experience I’ve spent most of my life searching for is actually found in the ordinariness of every day. Perhaps in my fast pace run of reaching for more, I had simply missed the joy of that which surrounded me. Maybe you feel that way too?

I needed to become a noticer of the here and now and stop living in the if and when. I needed rest that was rooted in the acceptance of Jesus’ invitation “come to me”. It’s not always easy to do in a world that screams for our attention, is it? In a world that doesn’t slow down long enough to let us lament or feel our deepest, truest feelings, to ask questions and listen for answers.

My intention here is to help you see life differently, to slow down and notice, to be rooted in real rest, to learn new rhythms, to be underwhelmed and overjoyed, to find sacred in the simple. While we won’t do this perfectly or become saints along the way, I pray you find your soul more satisfied as we spend time together.

I’m an avid reader, a gardener, canner of vegetables and photographer wannabe. I wrangle chickens on our 3 acres I endearingly call “the farm.”

My favorite place to think is outside in the dirt, planting things to eat and things to simply enjoy looking at. Who doesn’t love to eat a tomato fresh off the vine or gather an armful of peonies in full bloom?

I’m a 9w8 on the Ennegram married to an 8w9 which makes for an interesting 38-year union! I am a mom to five kiddos and a MiMi to seven grands.

The journey of learning, whether it be about spiritual things or life in general, is a life-long process. I would love to walk with you!

I have seen in my own life that the process of spiritual growth is long and winding and often filled with frustrations and surprises. I received my training in spiritual direction at the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Biola University where I graduated with a Master of Divinity degree, emphasizing in Spiritual Formation. I currently serve as a staff spiritual director at the Center for Spiritual Renewal at Biola University, meeting with students and staff. I also have a private practice in Torrance, CA where I meet with individuals in person or over video chat. I have a deep desire to see others spiritually formed through a deepening intimacy with the Trinity. For me, providing a safe place to prayerfully explore how God is leading and at work is the core of spiritual direction.

In addition to being a spiritual director, I also serve as the Director of the Spiritual Formation Society of Arizona. I also serve as an adjunct professor in Spiritual Formation at Phoenix Seminary.

Having served as a pastor for over 20 years, I have a heart for pastors and ministry leaders. Knowing the unique challenges they face, I value and cherish the opportunity to walk alongside ministry leaders in direction.

I enjoy leading retreats centered around Spiritual Formation ... both "traditional" retreats that center around teaching (intro/primers for SF) and contemplative retreats that facilitate deepening intimacy with God.

I completed a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Selah (Leadership Transformations) as well as Larry Crabb's School of Spiritual Direction (New Way Ministries). My academic training includes a MDiv, STM, and DMin. My approach to SD is contemplative in style and Trinitarian in theology.

I find Spiritual Direction to be incredibly life giving. Providing it or receiving it. Coming alongside of others, helping them notice God at work in their lives, is a unique privilege. Whether you are experiencing good times or are walking through difficulties, I would love to provide a safe place for you to share and prayerfully listen for where God’s love and grace may be seeping into your life. Together, with God’s guidance, we could explore spiritual disciplines that could be helpful for you. Or maybe you just need intentional time, space and companionship to help you process what your currant season in life might be showing you and/or questions you are struggling with.

No matter what is going on in our lives, we can trust the Lord is always at work in us. Having someone with us, to share these things with, in the company of the Lord, is a rare gift, a healthy way to tend to our souls.

As for me personally, I completed my certification in Spiritual Formation, Spiritual Leadership and Spiritual Direction with The Leadership Institute. I have been trained to walk with others using the spiritual exercises of Saint Ignatius, using Larry Warner's book, Journey with Jesus as well. I particularly enjoy accompanying others as they explore these phenomenal life transformational practices. I have worked in my local church for over 30 years in the areas of small groups, women in leadership, and Bible study. I have been through my own personal seasons of the soul (dark times as well as times of joy) and have gratefully learned, God uses it all. My passion has long been to see the transforming power of God’s never-ending love and extravagant grace, go deeper and deeper into the lives of His children.

In my leisure, I love to read, capture beauty with my camera, write, paint, and walk the beach looking for seashells and heart shaped rocks. But most of all I love being with family and friends, especially my adorable granddaughters.

As a seasoned spiritual director and leadership mentor, I walk alongside women who desire a deeper walk with God and an understanding of His movement in their lives, especially during times of hardship to trial. My practice is trauma-informed and focuses on attending to the movement of the Holy Spirit, listening prayer, inner healing, understanding your story, spiritual practices/disciplines, writing to heal, and the biblical integration of body, soul, and spirit.

My strengths include discernment, listening deeply to you and to the Holy Spirit, redemptive storytelling, insightfulness, asking questions that break through the clutter and get to the heart, and meaning making. My directees come from all walks of life, but most women I work with fall into one or more of these categories: seasoned and/or emerging leaders, church staff or missionaries, writers and creatives, and women who feel marginalized.

As someone who has suffered deeply, I am comfortable creating a safe place for women who live with chronic pain and illness, who are rebuilding their lives after divorce, and who feel isolated or marginalized by life circumstances and challenges.

My training is through Sustainable Faith's School of Spiritual Direction.

Onward and upward – that’s what I told myself and anyone else who would listen! I love the call from C.S. Lewis’ The Last Battle to come into the Kingdom – further up and further in. I’ve found in Spiritual Direction that God’s Voice also calls me to go deeper, get quiet, and enjoy the Lord’s presence with me in the present moment. It’s an increased awareness of God’s presence in my life…and that’s an invitation I can’t refuse!
After serving as a Vineyard pastor for nineteen years in a small, culturally diverse congregation southeast of Washington D.C., Spiritual Direction became the way further up and in. I received my training in Spiritual Direction from HCM (Healing Care Ministries, Certificate in Spiritual Formation & the Art of Spiritual Direction, 2015) and in Formational Prayer (Ashland Theological Seminary, Certificate in Formational Prayer, 2014). As a Spiritual Director, I also use Formational Prayer as a means to help people experience God’s healing touch in a personal way. Formational Prayer is a ministry of the Holy Spirit, moving through a Christian caregiver to bring the healing presence of Jesus Christ to the place of pain and brokenness. Formational Prayer helps remove emotional impediments in our awareness of and response to God’s presence in our lives. I also facilitate Healing Care small groups. I have been an Associate with HCM SFSD since 2017 and supervised students in training. Currently I am also focusing on Developmental Spiritual Direction (The Whole Peace, 2021), and additional Supervision training (Sustainable Faith 2022). I am available for individual and group Spiritual Direction, DSD, retreats, and 1-1 or peer group Supervision.
Born and raised in Canada I have Dutch roots and lived overseas. I have resided in Maryland for the last couple of decades where my husband and I have raised our three children and a myriad of pets, including baby ducks, a snake, and several dogs and cats. When I'm not walking my giant dog Theo, you can find me reading, writing, enjoying a cup of tea or some dark chocolate with friends, and visiting my children and grandchildren. One of the nicest things someone has said about me to someone else was, “Do you ever get together with Alice and NOT talk about God??” God in all things - what else is there??

About Me

Have you ever spent a season of your life wondering – seeking – desiring more – or in need of something different? We often find ourselves on these seeking journeys on the heels of heartbreak or disappointment – when life, or a relationship didn’t turn out the way we imagined. At least that’s how it was for me – maybe you too?

I grew up on an Illinois farm, imagining my life would be charmingly ordinary, but when the ink dried on my divorce papers at 27, I wondered if there was more…I needed there to be more. And so began my own seeking journey.

Ultimately, I met my Savior, who changed the trajectory. After coming to faith in Christ, I followed a path in and out of the corporate world, local ministries, and overseas missions – serving in urban youth ministry, international agricultural development, and the local church.

I'm a co-founder of a Christian non-profit dedicated to agricultural education and extension in Uganda, and a lifelong learner, recently completing my Master of Arts in Christian Leadership and certificate in Spiritual Direction through Sioux Falls Seminary in 2021.

The practice of spiritual direction blew into my own life gently, offering a practice that felt light and unhurried, instead of another thing to strive toward or achieve. The practice gives space to let me simply be, wrestle, question, and deepen - often reframing how I see God's presence in my life.

That is my hope for you. Whether you are struggling to discern the voice of God, wrestling with questions of faith and doubt, experiencing the process of deconstruction or reconstruction of your faith, or simply need to be reminded that God is good – spiritual direction is a safe space to explore these questions and shifts.

After a longer-than-desired single season, I eventually remarried in 2014 and became a stepmom to 3 teenagers, who are now young adults. Through the years, I dealt with the grief of infertility and the surprising joys of a blended family. Now in my 40’s, I look back and realize, that on the heels of that heartbreak in my 20's, I couldn’t have possibly imagined the life He had for me.

The words of Isaiah 61 have long captivated my heart: proclaiming the good news, binding up the broken hearted, and setting the captives free - which ultimately drew me into the fight against sex trafficking. Outside of providing direction, I serve as the Executive Director for Wings of Refuge, a Christ-centered organization that provides opportunities for healing and restoration to survivors of sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.

I believe there is a God-destined path you’re meant to walk…a path filled with purpose, grace, and freedom. A path that gracefully accounts for roadblocks and detours. It’s your path to walk – but you don’t have to walk alone. We all need companions for the journey and travel guides to help point us in the right direction. I’m grateful for the guides I met along the way who pointed me toward a deeper relationship with Christ and His purposes for my life. If you’ve found your way here – maybe I’ll serve as a guide in some way for you, as others have served for me.
