Hello friend!

I studied at Biola University and was trained in Spiritual Direction at the Insitute for Spiritual Formation at Talbot Seminary. I work as a Youth Director in Escondido, CA, and as an adjust professor at the Insitute for Spiritual Formation.

A huge focus for me is providing a place for people to be heard, understood, and loved. To that end, I believe any part of life is appropriate for Spiritual Direction. God can be present in times of worship, doing the dishes, and even an argument with a spouse or close friend.

I love meeting with high school students, faithful church attenders, skeptics, and everyone in between.

Having served in full-time vocational ministry since 1977, I currently live in Budapest, Hungary, serving as a Spiritual Director with Ministry Essentials, International. I sensed God calling me to the work of spiritual direction several years ago as a point in my own formational growth from the pastoral care and worship development that had previously been my ministry focus.

I received my training through Sustainable Faith’s School of Spiritual Direction. My ministry today is centered around spiritual direction, formational leader development, and pastoral care for global workers.

My greatest adventure has been marriage to Karen since 1977, and enjoying our two adult children, lovely daughter-in-law, and two awesome grandsons.

As a spiritual director of women, I seek to find God in all things and serve as a witness to the things He is doing in the lives of my sisters in Christ. After 5 years on the mission field in Mexico City, God led me to pursue training as a spiritual director. I have an MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Talbot School of Theology where I was trained as a Spiritual Director. I also have training in Spiritual Direction with children. I regularly participate in receiving spiritual direction as it has become a valuable rhythm in my own life.

I was a missionary kid and have spent a decade of my adult life overseas in missions. I am now back in the classroom teaching at an Elementary Christian School where I enjoy providing soul care for and joining God's work in the lives of children, their parents, and our faculty/staff. During the academic school year my availability for monthly meetings is primarily on Sunday afternoons.

When I think about the life-changing, soul-transforming gift of spiritual direction, I feel an upsurge of joy and gratefulness. All praise to God for inviting and enabling us to join Him in loving and serving His people and the world in this way!

After decades of working full-time as a mother to four daughters (and now four sons-in-law and seven grandchildren!) and working part-time as a physician, I am an unlikely spiritual director. Used to diagnosing problems and dispensing "cures," I have had to learn to allow God to be the One who does both the diagnosing and dispensing. Yet, these past professions also prepared me to do this work of spiritual direction by providing much practice in listening carefully, loving tenderly, waiting patiently, and trusting the one true Healer to bring wholeness.

Since completing Kairos School of Spiritual Formation's two-year spiritual direction training program in 2013 and Evangelical Theological Seminary's MAR in Spiritual Formation in 2014, I have enjoyed watching God open doors for ministry. In addition to private spiritual direction practice, I lead spiritual direction groups in my role as licensed Congregational Spiritual Director at our church. I am also available to lead weekend and all-day prayer retreats centered on Scripture, using traditional Christian contemplative practices. Retreat themes include The Spirituality of Aging, The Lord's Prayer, Reflections of God in Water, Living In-Between, The Fire of God, and Christian Spiritual Practices.

Though not taking new directees currently, I occasionally make two exceptions--missionaries and those interested in the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises. Having served overseas in Zambia and Honduras, my heart goes out to missionaries. In addition, God changed my life through encountering Christ anew in the Spiritual Exercises, so I am trained to give them to others.

I love listening to someone in spiritual direction as they share with me whatever it is that they are carrying into our time together. In their story I love it when they find God's story. I especially love sitting with someone and listening as they find their way home to God's heart and their own heart. I graduated from the Transformational Listening Center in Chicago in 2015 and was also a part of their teaching staff as an intern for another two years. I have been a practicing spiritual director ever since. I also have completed the 30 hour Enneagram Spectrum Training Program in 2016 and have participated in various other Enneagram intensive courses. I love working with individuals, couples and teams as they discover this great tool for personal growth and compassionate understanding of others. I also completed a year long intensive in the Ignatius Spiritual Exercises in 2020. I have two threads in my ministry: soul coaching and spiritual direction. Soul coaching is the term I use for a blend of coaching, spiritual practices, and spiritual direction. This is so I can maintain a more classic approach to spiritual direction when I engage in it. In both forms, I consider the Holy Spirit the primary "Coach" or "Director," while I am a guide and companion along your journey. My role as a soul coach is a little more directive and goal-oriented, while my role as a spiritual director (despite it being a bit of a misnomer), is much less so and more about presence, deep listening, and bearing witness to your experience of God so that you can grow more deeply in your intimacy with him.

I specialize in the areas of purpose, identity, calling, and discernment and I have a particular passion for students, young adults, clergy/ministers/pastors and their spouses and those in the entertainment industry. As a former youth pastor and current pastor's wife who originally planned on working in film and television, I love to walk with these and many others as they seek to grow deeper in their love for God and their ability to hear and recognize his voice.

I also have a compassionate heart for those wrestling with their gender or sexual identity, who need a loving, non-judgmental presence to listen and hold space for them as they seek God's presence in their life and to more deeply explore their identity in Christ. I also desire to be a ministering presence to those who serve in restricted countries or contexts where persecution is a daily reality.

I have a M.A. in Theology and Youth Ministry from Fuller Seminary, where I also currently lead groups for graduate students that integrate spiritual formation and theological reflection. I also work with Fuller's DePree Center for Leadership leading discernment groups for marketplace leaders and with Soul Care (soulcare.com) in Boulder, Colorado developing their burgeoning online community. I completed my three-year spiritual direction certificate with Sisters of St. Joseph in Orange and Loyola Marymount in June 2023.

I can meet in-person in the San Gabriel Valley/North Orange County areas of California and anywhere online. Having lived and ministered in Hawaii for almost a decade, I have a particular heart to minister to locals there. I often return to visit and may be able to do a hybrid blend of online and in person, depending on my schedule.

Spiritual Direction became an integral and joyful part of my life and walk with Christ as a missionary overseas. My first Spiritual Director was a missionary herself and accompanied me on my spiritual journey. She walked with me, listened, prayed and helped me notice what God was doing and hear what God was saying to my heart. She helped me better understand my responses to the Lord and my deepening, transforming relationship with Him.

Now, as a Spiritual Director myself, it brings me great joy to walk alongside others even as my Director overseas accompanied me. I have a heart to serve the missionary community especially, of course, as that is my calling. My husband and I are currently engaged in Missionary Soul Care with our agency and I desire to include others in my ministry, as well. At the heart of Spiritual Direction for me is prayerful holy listening. It is a time to help discern the Lord’s presence and heart for another. It is a small discerning group of three: The Lord, the Spiritual Director and you … the Lord residing at the heart! In Christian Spiritual Direction, my call and desire is to come alongside another in a confidential, Christ-centered, and Biblical manner to help another woman grow in intimacy with Christ and live more fully, more joyfully, more aware and more lovingly in relationship with God.

On a personal level, my husband and I have been married for over 45 years, we have two married sons, three grandchildren, and 3 “grandpuppies”. We have served in full-time Christian ministry since 1976 (3 years) in the high school ministry of Cru, 18 years in the youth pastorate, 18 years as overseas missionaries and most recently in missionary care for our mission agency. I have served as a French teacher in the US and in Africa, an elementary principal at an International Christian school overseas, a Language and Culture Coach in Western Europe and now serve in member care, as well as being a trained Spiritual Director.

We are all on a journey. We are all a part of an unfolding story. We are all caught up in the drama called life. Yet, becoming Christ-conscious, experiencing Trinitarian communion, and finding our way home in union with God is a constant, daily challenge. For the Christian journeying in and through this world, having inner spiritual battles are normal and understandable. Yet, when significant and major distractions and disruptions occur, a crisis of faith can quickly evolve and a host of questions arise. This is especially true when one is just beginning, overwhelmed by fear, detoured by sufferings, become entrapped in illusions, or weakened by various difficulties. Thus, the ministry of Spiritual Direction that I have come to be about is one of listening intently for and discerning of what the Holy Spirit is revealing regarding a present block, pitfall, resistance, or an unresolved issue that is hindering one from moving into God's Realm of Heaven in the here and now. This takes place in the context of a covenanted spiritual companionship where the directee comes to experience one's soul and spirit and how to embody the wisdom that is being made known as the way to bear one's cross and follow Christ. Letting go of what is past and letting be what is frees one to be present and get in touch with the core of one's being -- the "image of God" for the glory of God. This process is healing and restorative of the whole person into a deeper life of holiness through a variety of spiritual practices. Then one can more faithfully be about the redemption and salvation, peace and justice of Christ, participating in the life and coming of God's Realm of Heaven in a Spirit-filled way.

I received my training in Spiritual Direction through Leadership Transformations’ Selah Certificate Program. I enjoy companioning with others listening to them share their spiritual journey; helping them pay attention to our Triune God’s presence, voice, and activity in their lives, deepening their awareness of the invitations He is extending to them.

Spiritual Direction is a gift that’s nurtured more than a skill that’s taught. It is more about listening to God and companioning another in their relationship with God, rather than talking to them about God. It is making space for prayerful listening to the One who is always with them.
It is such a joy to see people begin to embrace the love of God and join Him in becoming the kind of person He created them to be.

I recently graduated with an M.A. in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from the Institute for Spiritual Formation, Talbot Seminary, Biola University. I currently offer spiritual direction in person, on Biola University's Campus, or on zoom. I love sitting with others and God, journeying with them to discover their identity as beloved of God, who sees, knows, and hears them. I have a cross-cultural and international background as I am a third culture and missionary kid and have worked with international students.
