I received my MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from the Institute for Spiritual Formation (ISF) at Talbot School of Theology, CA in 2007. I have since returned to Malaysia and for the last decade have been serving as the Director of the Institute for Christian Ministry (ICM) of TRAC (the English-speaking conference of the Methodist Church in Malaysia). I have also completed a 3-year training in an Ignatian spiritual companionship program with an ecumenical group. The Lord has given me countless opportunities to partner with His people in teaching, leading retreats, giving spiritual direction and developing curriculums on spiritual formation for the church as well as different groups/organizations. It has been an amazing journey of learning, re-learning and growing. I have been deeply humbled to catch glimpses of God's work of transformation in the hearts of those seeking Him.

I am passionate about others experiencing the love and grace of God and I believe sharing our stories with another facilitates that. I especially have a heart for folks who may feel weary and burdened by life or serving and cherish opportunities to provide space of rest and peace and clarity.
I received a certificate in Spiritual Direction from Christos Center for Spiritual Formation in St. Paul, MN in 2012. Since then I have provided one-on-one and group direction. I have also partnered with churches in providing soul care for staff, leadership and lay teams through retreat and contemplative times. Are you in a challenging or transitional season of life or ministry? Are you busy serving those around you but know you need to pause and pay closer attention to how God is moving in your own heart? I have found that slowing down enough to share with a spiritual companion who is outside of my immediate sphere, yet who can listen prayerfully, is a rich spiritual practice. In such a time as this, we need these ‘be still’ moments more than ever to become aware of and appreciate God’s loving presence in the details of our lives.

As a trained spiritual director and over many years in ministry (serving in Canada, in the US, in Europe, and now back again) I have found much joy in walking with others who desire a deeper connection with God. I’ve seen the profound need in myself and others to intentionally and regularly create space to engage in spiritual practices that allow for listening and receiving from God and have enjoyed the blessing of meeting with a spiritual director in my own life. I welcome the privilege of accompanying others in their journey with the Lord.

As a spiritual director, there is a sweetness and delight in welcoming fellow companions into the quiet and stillness of a safe and sacred space. We sit down together in the loving presence of the Father, Jesus, and Holy Spirit, and notice where God is in your life story. Through contemplative prayer and conversation we listen, reflect, and discern together what the Holy Spirit may be showing you.

Throughout many years, I have journeyed on a continuous path of seeking and knowing God more day by day. Life in all its ordinary ways is where I have experienced the tensions of growing in my faith with God and others. Mission: Because I trust that the eternal is near and knowable, my mission in providing spiritual direction is to assist directees in entering quiet and contemplative time where they can strengthen their awareness of God’s faithful presence and experience grace.

Life-giving Paradox
One tenet of the Celtic spiritual tradition is that heaven and earth are separated by only three feet and in some places -- thin places – that distance is even smaller. Here’s the paradox: While the eternal is as near as all that, it remains a vast, often frightening, mystery.

At times, that holy mystery touches us, reminding us that there is something more, something bigger, something both intimately knowable and cosmically unknowable.

Embracing a paradox is slow, challenging work. It is an endeavor best undertaken with an anam cara, a soul friend – one who offers another a sanctuary, a safe place in which to be still and lean into that holy mystery.

My spiritual direction practice is built on that foundation of holy mystery, thin places, and the presence of an anam cara.

Training: I was trained in the art of spiritual direction though the Tending the Holy program of the Christos Center for Spiritual Formation (https://www.christoscenter.org/) and commissioned as a spiritual director May 2023.

As a writer, reader, and retired college-level English instructor, I bring to spiritual direction a lifetime of imaginative thinking, image analysis, and love of story. I am available for individual and small group direction as well as a variety of focused retreats.

The glory of God is a human person fully alive. - St. Irenaeus

In each and every interaction we have with one another, we have the opportunity to move each other closer toward health and wholeness as we become more like Christ. At every stage of life, people need to know that they are seen, heard, and known. When people recognize that their existence is valuable, they will contribute to the flourishing of our world as God intended.

As a spiritual director, I consider it a great honor to facilitate a space for individuals and groups to become more attuned to how God is at work in their particular lives. It is a gift to listen together, and explore what the Spirit might be doing.

I completed formal spiritual director training at the Institution of Spiritual Formation at Biola University when I received my MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care. I am currently a staff director at Biola University, and I am open to meeting with a limited number of new directees either online or in-person (in the Orange County area).

I spend a lot of time reading, taking walks, dreaming up my next international trip, meeting up with people, and thinking (also talking) about what I believe about God, humanity, and our world. I have a degree in cultural anthropology and an MA in Spiritual Formation. I’m a pastor to high school students, a self-proclaimed geography expert, and I want to speak as many languages as possible. I can never keep up with grocery shopping, I think I’m better at basketball than I actually am, and I get very caught up in existential thoughts about existence. I love airports, ice cream (even though it hurts my stomach every single time) and I’m a very mediocre small-talker. Let’s just get into it already.

I received my Spiritual Direction training at Biola University where I graduated with my M.A. in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care in May 2009. During that time I participated in the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises Program (Nineteenth annotation) at the Loyola Institute for Spirituality in Orange, California.
Meeting with my own spiritual director has continued to be a valuable place where am encouraged draw closer to the Lord. In that space I experience another pair of eyes to see and ears to hear what the Lord might be doing in ways I would not have otherwise noticed. I feel called to, in turn, provide that kind of space for others where they can experience a deeper awareness of God’s presence and how He is uniquely working in their lives. My training has increased my ability to discern the Holy Spirit’s leading and how He may be drawing a person into a more intimate relationship with God. My direction experiences over the past 10 years has been with people from ages 15 to 60, who are sensing their relationship with the Lord is not where they wish it were and are seeking wisdom and discernment.
In my spare time I love running, biking, golfing, and hiking, all the while looking for God’s presence. I seek Him in creation, and in solitude but also in retreat (both guided and unguided).

I discerned the call to spiritual direction while completing my Masters of Theological Studies in Spiritual Formation at Tyndale Seminary in Toronto. Like many spiritual directors, I was captured by the incredible privilege it is to companion someone as they discern the voice of the loving Creator in their lives.

I have the honor of holding the title of CSD (Certified Spiritual Director) through CCPC Global for more than 10 years, alongside the title of CSDS (Certified Spiritual Director Supervision) through the same organization.

In recent years, I have also been given the privilege and grace of accompanying other directors as a supervisor, and as the founder of a relational training program in spiritual direction called the Anam Cara Apprenticeship. In addition to my journey as a spiritual director and supervisor, I am blessed to marry my love for spiritual formation with my love for the written word as the author of two published books, Embracing the Body: Finding God in Our Flesh & Bone (IVP, 2015) and At Play In God's Creation: A Contemplative Coloring Book (Franciscan, 2017).
