I serve in Leader Formation at Youth for Christ, USA, training adults across the US who lead ministry to 11-19 year olds; developing ministry skills and personal, Spirit-led transformation. While I love my chosen vocation, I found myself "under water" in recent years driven by my work ethic, a culture of achievement and an internal desire to to earn approval. (Not to mention the wave of life changes that come as we age!) I needed help coming up for air and Spiritual Direction was the help Jesus used to invite me into His long and loving gaze. Spiritual direction has helped me cultivate an un-hurried soul in companionship with Jesus.

I completed certification in Spiritual Direction, The School of Contemplative Life and the Accompaniment of the 19th Annotated Ignatian Prayer Exercises through Sustainable Faith. Each of these has generated transformation in my inner life and I am delighted to accompany others as they journey. As people occasionally need help figuring out where the Holy Spirit is leading, I create and hold space for folks to meet with Jesus. More of a companion on the road than a direction-giver, I come alongside as a support.

My experience in offering Spiritual Direction includes meeting with ministry leaders, young women, new moms, "empty nesters" and those drawn to Ignatian Prayer Exercises; helping each explore the presence of Jesus and His shepherding voice. I have served as an on-site Spiritual Director for Women's Reflective Retreats in Mount Hermon, CA.

I host reflective retreats that help attendees develop rhythms of retreat and reflection, helping people settle in to this journey; encouraging them toward the heart of Jesus through the movements in their souls.

My life has been one of call and response - God gives me awareness of His call and I respond by following His lead. In this journey of joy, God has called me to serve in different ministry capacities for more than 20 years. Most recently, He led me to start a church community in San Luis Obispo where we grow together in practicing the presence of God. As I desperately depend on Him to follow this calling, He has drawn me into deeper personal postures, practices and rhythms in order to consistently stay in the flow of His Spirit. Spiritual Direction is a privilege and gift that I love. I strive to provide an inviting space for sacred conversation, attentive listening, and discernment as the Holy Spirit moves within the conversation. The Spiritual Direction program, Selah, through Leadership Transformations, Inc., trained me to focus on Trinitarian, Contemplative, and Biblical foundations. While silence can be uncomfortable for some, the intention is for silence to become part of the rhythm and natural flow. However, this practice is not exclusive to my practice, and I will always respond to what feels best for you.
Professionally, I work for the Spiritual Life Development Department for The Salvation Army Eastern Territorial Headquarters in New York. I have been part of the team here for almost nine years. The vision of our department is to create tangible resources that encourage and guide spiritual disciplines such as prayers, silence & solitude, and Lectio Divina, to name a few. We also provide guided retreats for refreshment and renewal. The work within this department has helped cultivate a deeper understanding of my faith and relationship with the Lord. It’s always about me showing up because He is already there.
I have been married to my high school sweetheart for over twenty years, and we have two daughters. We were an active military family for fourteen years before my husband separated from the US Navy and began a new career. Family, friends, and my community are important to me. For fun, I enjoy spending time in nature, playing with my dogs, reading books, stretching out of my comfort zone and listening to all voices, resting on a beach, and CrossFit. I was born and raised in The Salvation Army, where my family and I attend church. While living all over the country, my family and I have also attended different churches. I gleaned from the experience and sitting in a room with believers who just want to be part of the community. I value and respect traditions that reflect the faithful.

I have my Masters in Human Services- Family and Marriage Counseling from Liberty University. While I am not a certified counselor, my education has equipped me to be a good listener and how to engage in a one-on-one session. Becoming a Spiritual Director is a role I enjoy and feel led to practice.

I lead the Spiritual Direction team at the Bamboo Initiative, as well as providing spiritual direction for seeking individuals. I am a trained and licensed Ignatian Spiritual Director and Spiritual Exercises Accompanist, with experience leading individuals in direction, as well as the Spiritual Exercises (the 9 month version often called the “19th Annotation”), and facilitating group spiritual direction in cohorts with the 10 week Spiritual Exercises (often called the “18th Annotation”). I have found my home in observing the loving, intricate and holy work of God in the lives of the Beloved. My joy is found in watching and waiting for the Voice of God as He draws people close. My favorite scripture about Spiritual Direction comes from John chapter 3; “The One who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.” This is becoming my heart’s desire.

I have particular training in a prayer model called Immanuel Prayer as well as experience teaching Lectio Divina and the Examen Prayer. I am available for 1 hour Spiritual Direction sessions during flexible daytime hours. I am available for face to face meetings with locals as well as sessions via FaceTime, Zoom or WhatsApp. I charge $60 per session for individuals. My involvement as a participant and a Director in Spiritual Direction ministry brings joy and peace to my heart as God's presence and power is at work through this humble ministry. I'm currently the Associate Pastor of Gawler Lutheran Church, South Australia. As part of my ministry I run a spiritual direction and retreat ministry called Three Rivers Retreats. The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises have been influential on my own Christian walk and prayer life with God. They also have been influential on my spiritual direction formation with completing a Masters of Arts in Spiritual Direction in 2013 through the University of Divinity and in 2014 with the Arrupe Program becoming an Ignatian Companion. Since this formation various people have been seeing me for spiritual direction and I've been an ESDA Spiritual Director member since 2016. At the end of 2016 I completed some ecumenical spiritual direction formation with Tabor College, Adelaide, South Australia and affirmed as a Spiritual Director member of the Ecumenical Spiritual Director's Association since 2017. I received my spiritual direction training from Talbot’s Institute for Spiritual Formation, and my degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Seminary. Although I do not offer mental health services at this time, my training as a psychotherapist has equipped me with a trauma-informed perspective which helps me better disentangle spiritual and mental health issues and offer referrals when needed. What we’ll do: In our fast-paced lifestyles there is often little time and space to pause and pay attention to the movements of God. In spiritual direction, we will attend more deeply to the ongoing work God is doing in your soul and help you grow in your capacity to hear from God and participate in the work He is doing in your life. We might examine your view of God, discerning God’s will, growing in intimacy with God, decision-making, grief, faith deconstruction/reconstruction, your experience of prayer, feelings of shame and guilt, and any places you might be feeling stuck or stunted in relation to God. This usually involves meeting about once a month for an hour or so and involves silence, guided prayer and scripture meditation. We will trust the Holy Spirit to guide us, who loves you beyond measure.

It is through these practices that I believe we are able to live and serve from a place of overflow, honoring the way that Jesus taught us through his life and ministry. Our time together will include silence. Understanding that human complexity and the busyness of our world sometimes can make this practice difficult to learn, we will also be sharing thoughts, desires, and prayers–honoring the beauty of Semi-Silent space!

Linda is a licensed minister who has been in full time ministry at the local church level for 12 years. She currently serves as the Care and Prayer Pastor at EastLake Church in San Diego and sits on their leadership team. Outside of work she enjoys time with her family, pets, and any activity involving the ocean. She has been trained in contemplative spiritual direction through Selah’s two year program.

Linda offers contemplative spiritual direction with an awareness of the body and trauma. Somatic Experiencing® is a modality that helps work with the stuck energy of trauma in the body in a way that is supported and titrated in order to not re-traumatize the individual. In 1995, I became aware of "holy listening" while reading Margaret Guenther's work. Her work and writings affirmed what I knew but did not have a term for in the spiritual life. I grew up surrounded by "holy listeners' who understood listening to and being aware of the presence of God in all of life. My family members and teachers understood living the presence of Christ in the rhythms of work, play and rest.

After completing a BA in Religious Studies, a Master's in Counseling and an EdD in Adult and Higher Education, I pursued a certificate in spiritual direction through the Christos Center in MN. This experience was personally and professionally life giving! I teach courses in Listening People to Life: Training in Spiritual Direction at Sioux Falls Seminary. Students come longing for a greater awareness of the presence of God, the ministry of Christ, and of the Spirit's work in and through their lives. I am honored to join people in their spiritual journey.

I value the ministry of spiritual direction as it allows space and time to remember who we are as God's children. It allows a prayerful space for listening and discerning God's purposes for our lives. Isaiah 26:3 reminds us of the peace that will permeate our lives when we are focused on God. I tend to meet with people who are in times of transitions and seeking God's direction for their lives.

I am married to Randy Reese, founder of the ministry VantagePoint 3. We have a high school son who loves to train and participate in swim competitions! We enjoy the rhythm of work, play and rest together.

About Me

Being driven to being drawn is how I described my own need for spiritual direction years ago. Now, as a spiritual director, it is an honor to help others internally quiet down, listen and grow in awareness of the gentle, loving presence of God.

It is life-giving to come alongside and care for others as they often find themselves running on empty. I have journeyed with the broken-hearted and feel at home in grief and tears, knowing that God is near to those who hurt deeply. I also savor times of celebration -being with others as they catch glimpses of God’s goodness, amazing care and deep love.

After being on staff in both para-church and church settings for 25+ years, I sensed God intentionally leading me to grow in loving Him and loving others well. I immersed myself in a 3-year spiritual training, earning my MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care through Talbot Seminary.

My husband and I have been married for 40 years and we have three amazing adult children, one special son-in- law and two precious grandchildren. I delight in strolling in nature with a friend, relaxing with a good book, and savoring time (and food!) with family and friends around the table.

The Gospel of Luke offers an exchange between Jesus and a lawyer that displays the shift that can take place when we enter the relationship of spiritual direction. The lawyer approaches Jesus with a spirit of confrontation, but Jesus uses the exchange to move him from a place of right answers to an experiential engagement with the Great Commandment. Jesus' questions and then telling the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) is a wonderful example of spiritual direction in action.

I look forward to the opportunities of sitting before God — THE Spiritual Director — with another and together discovering the goodness of God.

I have served in various ministry positions for over 25 years, both in Church settings and social ministry contexts. I am currently the Director of Operations for a ministry in Athens, Ohio called Good Works, Inc. (www.good-works.net). These ministry experiences provide a wealth of background for discerning the work of God in one's life and continuing our journey in Love: Love of God, neighbor, one another, self and one's enemies.

About Me

Over the years, spiritual direction has been a place where I have deepened by relationship God. I retired as an Audiologist and felt called to become a spiritual director. I was trained in Christian Formation Direction Ministries of San Diego and finished in 2011. I moved from assisting people to hear their outer world, to listening to their internal soul.

I also am an author and published a workbook called Not Alone: A Christ-Centered recovery process for women who have experienced physical, emotional or sexual trauma (2019) and Not Alone: Transforming Trauma and Accompanying Survivors (2020). As I started to share my own story of childhood molestation and deeper healing of God, many women have shared their stories with me. Both books contain true stories and spiritual practices that allow God's loving transformation. My latest book, "Spiritual Direction with Survivors of Sexual Trauma" (2023) sprang forth from my experience teaching direction students, accompanying survivors in direction, and meeting with directors in supervision. It brings me joy to see women become freer to be who they were created to be.

I am married to my husband, Ron, of 31 years. We have three grown daughters and two grandchildren.

I love to swim, dance and take walks along the ocean.
