My background is in the church and academia, where I have served in a variety of roles for 35 years. My personal spiritual perspective is what I would call contemplative evangelical and firmly orthodox. I have been ordained in the Evangelical Free Church of America and hold a Doctor of Ministry in leadership and a Ph.D. in socioeconomics (Spiritual Capital Theory). I have written or contributed to five books. I have taught and coached many leaders in my various roles and now feel called to embrace the vocation of spiritual direction on a more full time basis. I have completed three years of training as a spiritual director and been under supervision.

My view of spiritual direction can be summarized by Frank J. Houdek in his book, "Guided by the Spirit."

Spiritual direction is a conversation, a dialogue, between two people. In such a conversation one person aides another, often by a process of question and answer, to express his or her experience of personal faith and mystery.

My goal in direction, through this spiritual conversation, is to assist my directees in discerning how God is presently at work in their lives, so that they might more consciously and continually experience His presence in their lives.

I am a native Californian who grew up in the SoCal city of Fountain Valley. After high school I attended CSULB where I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in creative writing in 1990. At that time I went on to work in the medical field for 12 years before entering into Pastoral ministry in the early 2000s. At that time I began the MDiv program at Talbot Seminary, part of Biola University. While pursuing my MDiv I worked as an associate pastor in the Long Beach area for 11 years.

I received my MDiv in 2013 with an emphasis in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care under the instruction of Dr. John Coe at the Institute for Spiritual Formation. I have been on staff with Talbot's Spiritual Formation Core program since 2010, providing spiritual direction to graduate students and staff alike. I am also currently an Adjunct faculty member at Biola University where I oversee cohort groups in the SF Core program for graduate students. This program helps prepare and equip women and men who are entering pastoral ministry.

Having served in pastoral ministry for the past 15 years, I have a real understanding of the joys and struggles that pastors face when serving in such a high people oriented role. Over the years I hit a wall of burnout and compassion fatigue that propelled me to receive care from a gifted, caring pastor and Spiritual Director. I now have a deep passion to come along side pastors who themselves are facing similar challenges while serving. I believe God has given me a specialty in helping pastors "tend to their own soul" through the gift of spiritual direction, Sabbatical care, and Pastor Soul Care groups.

Dave and his wife of 28 years reside in Lakewood, CA with their 4 children (their 5th and oldest child lives nearby in Long Beach). We attend Light and Life Christian Fellowship in North Long Beach where I serve on the lay leadership staff. I have had the joy of serving in a spiritual formation discipleship program entitled “FORMED” for the past 2 years with the goal of help people deepen their intimacy with Jesus.

Dave love’s to eat Thai food, camp at the beach, ride bikes, watch football, listen to all kinds of music on vinyl and spend time with his family in the pool or beach.

God speaks and listens, both intentionally and intimately. Spiritual direction is a time of intentional reflection on your life and relationship with God, moving towards more openness and awareness of God's communication and presence in every corner of your inner and outer life. My goal is to be a second set of ears as we listen for God's subtle movement in your everyday life, as well as in times of big life decisions or changes. I find tremendous joy in creating contemplative, safe spaces for others to connect with God in a way that doesn’t often happen in ordinary life. Spiritual Direction has made a profound impact in my own work and ministry, and I feel honored to sit in this sacred space with others to witness the ways God is at work.

I am a trained educator and social worker whose passions have converged with the practice of Spiritual Direction. My work experience includes teaching middle school in South Side Chicago, working with YWAM in Taiwan, Nepal and Ukraine, and currently facilitating economic empowerment with survivors of homelessness, addiction, and sex trafficking in New York City.

As you can imagine, burnout is real in this work, and when I started seeing a Spiritual Director, it felt like a lifeline. The slow contemplative space it created has been transformative in my life and work. As I started training to become a Spiritual Director, I found that it is my passion to walk with others as they seek to live and work out of a sustaining connection with God. My heart as a Spiritual Director is to create spaces for people to honestly share their journey with God, both the good and difficult, and look for the graces that show how God is at work.

I studied Nonprofit Management at Columbia School of Social Work and completed my certificate in Spiritual Direction and certification in supervising Spiritual Directors through Sustainable Faith’s School of Spiritual Direction. I finished an Apprenticeship in the Spiritual Exercises through OCL and am certified to accompany individuals through the 19th Annotation of the Ignatian Exercises. I am a co-founder of The Stillness Collective where I lead contemplative retreats in the city. I am currently creating a retreat center in Lancaster, PA called Magnolia Cottage where I envision a space for rest and contemplation.

In my free time, I enjoy caring for my vegetable plot in a community garden in Harlem, experimenting with recipes using the harvested produce, running in Central Park, and off-the-beaten path travel.

The term spiritual director is ancient and widely used, yet-I prefer spiritual companion. I consider it an honor and a privilege to sit with someone as we both wait in awareness of the Holy Spirit.
When we meet we will spend our time together in the presence of the Holy Spirit to look, listen, discern and move closer to the heart of God. This is not a quick process but a long obedience in the same direction. We will spend a lot of time in quiet listening to the Lord.
What brought me to desire to be a spiritual companion? My journey to this ministry was after 20+ years of walking with Jesus-I wanted more. I found myself tired and weary in my life and I knew the life promised in Scripture was very different. My desire grew for more of God and more of the abundant life Jesus tells us about. (John 10:10) So I began my search for more of Jesus and over the last 8 years he has met me. Every. Step. Of. The. Way. A way that brought me to enter training as a spiritual director in September 2020. God’s lovingkindness has been evident throughout and I am grateful to be able to share that with others. My desire for more has not waned but only grown as I continue to seek the path he has laid out before me. In May 2022 I completed training with the Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction.

After many years of pastoring I discovered the gift of meeting with a spiritual director. It was a much needed space with a listening companion for the deep places of my heart. Over time, I was so delighted to discover that God had been naturally leading me into this ministry for others - recognizing it was what I had been doing for decades. That discovery led me to pursue training which I received through CFDM - Los Angeles, more specific training for the Ignatius exercises through the Lanteri Center in Denver, and supervision through Sustainable Faith.
I am deeply grateful to journey with others in the practice of spiritual direction (as well as the ongoing ways my spiritual director & supervisor journey with me).
My husband and I (of 39 years) have three grown children, and fifteen grandchildren (Yes! I really did say 15). We currently live on several acres on the east side of Denver with chickens, horses, gardens & fifteen little people that visit on a regular basis.
I consider each one’s story to be holy, and I am deeply humbled to be a listening companion to whoever God brings my way.

I have become gratefully aware of God’s ever-present faithfulness in the seasons of life through 34 years of marriage and as the mother of three grown children, and grandmother of five. Becoming a widow unexpectedly in early 2018 has resulted in a deepening of every aspect of my spiritual life. Previously, as a result of other profound life changes, I was drawn into an ongoing re-evaluation of my life and faith, and what it means to be open to God’s loving examination and companionship.

One of the greatest gifts given to me in this time has been the gracious listening of a spiritual director. To sit with another in God’s presence and be received and heard is a healing place. This process has helped me to notice more fully what God is doing and saying and how I am responding.

I believe the ministry of spiritual direction is an important and effective gift offering ongoing growth towards clarity, liberation, and wholeness in all of life, as individuals learn to notice and respond to the movement of God.

I received formal training at the Institute for Spiritual Direction at Stillpoint in Las Vegas, graduating in 2012, and later completed Advanced Formation training, with further experience in leading the Ignatian Exercises, retreats and small group studies in the Bible and spiritual classics. I am an oblate novice at St. Andrew's Abbey in Valyermo, California.

I remain grateful for the transforming, healing work of God, in my life and in the lives of others.

Spiritual direction has personally changed the trajectory of my life. After a traumatic encounter, the Lord guided me to come alongside my Spiritual Director to discern how God was speaking to me through this experience. After a two and half year time of discernment, I shift to another life course leaving behind a twenty-four-year chaplain career to become a Spiritual Director. The adventure has been beautifully hard and life-giving to my soul. I love the thought of having the opportunity to journey with others in the discovery they find.

During twenty-four years of chaplain ministry, including hospice, hospital care, and pastoring, I have witnessed Christ as the Shepherd of my soul and the souls of others. In the sacred place with others, the Lord's presence faithfully invites us to His loving care. He guides with gentleness, precision, silence, and deep encouragement. Being the Shepherd of each person's soul He knows how to speak exactly to each of us for our understanding and clarity. I am a trained spiritual director and supervisor in the Atlanta area. I see myself as a “space creator.” My soul comes alive when I get to create a space for someone to share about their life. I see a sacredness in all things – the seemingly mundane and big blessings. It is an honor and a gift to me to walk alongside someone wherever they are on their spiritual journey.
High school math was my first passion, which I taught for 7 years before pursuing ministry. For five years, I worked in both church production and marketplace ministry. I completed my spiritual direction certification through Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta, Georgia and found my calling.
My ministry is called Ravach Ministries because ravach is a Hebrew word that means wide open space. It also means to breathe freely, to be refreshed, and full of compassion. This is the essence of my hope for spiritual direction – a spacious place where one comes as they are, to pause and breathe in the midst of our chaotic world, and connect with the compassionate heart of the Divine. I’ve learned that the Divine doesn’t exist in a box, but rather in the wide-open space that allows us all to be who we were uniquely created to be.

One of my greatest joys in life is being invited into the unique and personal journeys of the people in my life. God is a true artist, and each story He is writing is full of creativity and beauty (even in the midst of the darkness we so often find). It is an honor to hold others' stories and notice the hand of our Heavenly Father weaving together a masterpiece through their lives.

Having grown up spending my summers in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, I have always loved beauty and have a deep appreciation for the imagery God has woven throughout His creation. I have also been a deep thinker and have always loved connecting the dots of life and noticing the bigger picture of what God is doing in our stories. Spiritual Direction has created space for me to integrate these parts of my story into the process of walking with individuals in their own stories.

I recently completed my Spiritual Direction training through the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Talbot School of Theology and have one year left in my M.A. in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care. I also have a Certificate in Spiritual Formation and Leadership through The Leadership Institute - a spiritual formation and discipleship ministry based in Southern California. I am currently offering direction at Biola University as a staff director, as well as on an individual basis in the La Mirada area.

Having grown up in the church, my story has been one of rediscovering my faith apart from the legalism and performance based Christianity I grew up in. I love helping others discover true freedom in Christ as they rediscover their faith in light of God's grace. I have also been profoundly impacted through the time I have spent outdoors in God's creation and have a passion for helping others connect with God through an embodied faith. Hello, my name is Lynn. I am a wife, mother to 3 grown daughters, 2 toddler grandsons and a retired hospice nurse. One of my favorite joys is to sit with another and create a contianer for people to sit with their spiritual stories. I have a special heart for those who are weary and worn with care. I see one of my main tasks as a spiritual director to practice ‘spiritual hospitality’ ... creating a safe and welcoming space for the directee, no matter where they are on their journey and I to invite the Spirit’s work and presence.

I received my training as a spiritual director at North Park (Evangelical Covenant Church) seminary in Chicago, graduating in 2017. My husband and I are members of Church of the Ascension, an Anglican Church in Pittsburgh, PA. I see people in my home office in the south hills of Pittsburgh or virtually via FaceTime or Zoom. I have flexibility to provide day and evening appointments. The best way to contact me is via phone, text or email.

About Me

I am on a journey with God to learn who He has made me to be, and to join Him in the ministry He continues to develop me for. Having accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior at age 8, I am a life-long follower of Jesus Christ, seeking an ever-closer walk with Him. Recognizing that God placed people in my life at pivotal moments, who shepherded and nurtured me so that I might better identify with the God who has created me in His image, I seek to come alongside others in a companionship ministry assisting them to better hear the still, small voice of God. My calling is primarily to come alongside those He places in my life-especially men-who also desire that same intimacy with God, igniting the Divine Spark, and helping to fan their passion into full flame as they seek to follow hard after God.

I have been an ordained pastor and chaplain in the Reformed tradition for over 40 years. God has led me to pastor three churches, serve 20 years as a U.S. Navy Chaplain, work with end-of-life ministry through hospice, serve within business and industry with Marketplace Chaplains USA, and I have recently retired after serving as a hospital chaplain for over 8 years. I completed training to become a spiritual director through the Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction in May 2020.

I have been married for over 40 years to a wonderful Christ follower and leader. Together she and I have 3 children and 5 grandchildren who are themselves all avid followers of Christ. Believing that I have been-in the tradition of Abraham-blessed to be a blessing, I am prayerfully asking God to lead me to the right people I can come alongside to journey in faith with.
