About Me

I received my Spiritual Direction training at Biola University where I graduated with my M.A. in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care in May 2009. During that time I participated in the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises Program (Nineteenth annotation) at the Loyola Institute for Spirituality in Orange, California.
Meeting with my own spiritual director has continued to be a valuable place where am encouraged draw closer to the Lord. In that space I experience another pair of eyes to see and ears to hear what the Lord might be doing in ways I would not have otherwise noticed. I feel called to, in turn, provide that kind of space for others where they can experience a deeper awareness of God’s presence and how He is uniquely working in their lives. My training has increased my ability to discern the Holy Spirit’s leading and how He may be drawing a person into a more intimate relationship with God. My direction experiences over the past 10 years has been with people from ages 15 to 60, who are sensing their relationship with the Lord is not where they wish it were and are seeking wisdom and discernment.
In my spare time I love running, biking, golfing, and hiking, all the while looking for God’s presence. I seek Him in creation, and in solitude but also in retreat (both guided and unguided).

It is a privilege to sit in a direction room with others, discovering with them what God is speaking and discerning together how they are responding to His voice. My greatest passion is seeing people discover the easy yoke and the abundant life that is available through Christ.

I received my training in Spiritual Direction as well as an MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Talbot School of Theology. I also have a MA in Organizational Leadership.

I served for 21 years as a Pastor at a large church in Long Beach, CA. This experience gives me a unique vantage point in listening to pastors. Currently, I’m an Adjunct Faculty member at Biola University and a Staff Spiritual Director at the Institute for Spiritual Formation.

I have been married to my beautiful wife for 30 years. We have two children, one who recently graduated with his MA and one who is a senior in college.

I discerned the call to spiritual direction while completing my Masters of Theological Studies in Spiritual Formation at Tyndale Seminary in Toronto. Like many spiritual directors, I was captured by the incredible privilege it is to companion someone as they discern the voice of the loving Creator in their lives.

I have the honor of holding the title of CSD (Certified Spiritual Director) through CCPC Global for more than 10 years, alongside the title of CSDS (Certified Spiritual Director Supervision) through the same organization.

In recent years, I have also been given the privilege and grace of accompanying other directors as a supervisor, and as the founder of a relational training program in spiritual direction called the Anam Cara Apprenticeship. In addition to my journey as a spiritual director and supervisor, I am blessed to marry my love for spiritual formation with my love for the written word as the author of two published books, Embracing the Body: Finding God in Our Flesh & Bone (IVP, 2015) and At Play In God's Creation: A Contemplative Coloring Book (Franciscan, 2017). About Me

My own journey into spiritual direction emerged indirectly through personal struggles with an image of God as emotionally distant and strict (pictured with His arms crossed and a frown on His face). My distorted image of God eventually shipwrecked my faith and caused me to leave the church for several years. During these intervening years I gradually stumbled onto the writings of Henri Nouwen, Thomas Merton, Richard Foster, and Dallas Willard, all of whom rekindled my desire to explore a deeper dimension of the spiritual life and which subsequently led to my enrollment in the two-year Christian spiritual formation program at the Renovare Institute. My participation in the Renovare program profoundly shifted my image and experience of the Divine and introduced me to the exciting truth that we have access to the love, power, and goodness of the kingdom of God here-and-now. My own experience of spiritual direction over the past 5 years has deepened this awareness of God’s abiding presence and led me to obtain a certificate in spiritual companioning/direction at Lindenwood Retreat and Conference Center in northern Indiana.

I believe that A.W. Tozer’s quote – “what comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us” – provides a solid foundation for the practice of spiritual direction. As Tozer further notes, this is not a mere intellectual belief about the nature of God, but involves a deep heart-felt knowledge of who we experience God to be for us personally. But here’s the rub: there is often a gap between our professed beliefs about God and our image or picture of Him. A primary focus of spiritual direction for me involves closing this gap so you are able to seek a deeper experience of God and to pursue a more intimate fellowship with the Trinity. On a practical level, this means that I aspire to listen deeply to the longings hidden in your story, and to create a safe, sacred place in which we discern the promptings and guidance of the Holy Spirit (the true spiritual director) through prayerful, contemplative silence.

Professionally, I worked as a clinical psychologist for 30 years and taught several counseling-related courses for both secular and Christian universities, including 8 years of teaching spiritual formation online for the master’s counseling program at Colorado Christian University.

My primary interests as a spiritual director are: (1) helping individuals revise their picture/image of God: (2) inviting them into life-giving spiritual practices which nourish their relationship with the Trinity; and (3) partnering with them to discern the Holy Spirit’s leading in their everyday life.

I currently live in Crown Point, IN with my wife. We enjoy spending time with our eight grandchildren, traveling, and working out at the YMCA. I also enjoy teaching classes in spiritual formation at the local Methodist church where we worship, listening to contemporary Christian music, watching my favorite sports’ teams, and savoring a really good cup of coffee!

I am available for individual and group spiritual direction as well as conducting retreats focused on revising one’s image/picture of God. Please contact me for a free consultation.

Hello and welcome :)

What I need you to know is that the love of God has changed my life. I spent many years trying to prove, achieve, and earn my way, and God orchestrated a divine rescue plan. It’s a journey I didn’t know to ask for and one I’m so incredibly grateful for. If you’re here, perhaps you know there may be more for you, too.

Spiritual direction is not a fixer-ministry. There is no prescribed or uniform way to grow closer to God. However, when we gather together and ask Him to come, He does. The growth is often slow yet lasting, life-transforming, and relationship-altering.

And because it’s hard to knock on the door of a stranger:

I grew up not knowing God, but He drew me in through the local church right before I graduated high school. I fell in love with Him and the family He invited me into. I married my husband shortly after, and we’ve pastored and served together for nearly 30 years. We’ve been through our share of “church hurt” and don’t have blinders on or pass judgment on where each person is in their relationship with church.

I have 5 almost-grown kids. Some of my most humbling formation has happened within the walls of our home, witnessed by these humans who get a front-row view.

I’ve lived in 30 homes in my lifetime, and I’ve moved willingly and unwillingly. I’ve come to (mostly) face the trauma of my childhood, my struggles with mental health, and my continual failure as a perfect-human. However, I overcome through the power of my testimony. I seek intimacy, deep inner joy, peace, and the power of the Holy Spirit. I’d love to journey with you as you do the same.

After the tragic loss of my husband in 2012, I went through my grief journey and transition into widowhood. God was so present to me in every way and has led me into a newness of life. Today, I am a Christian radio host in Los Angeles, my weekly radio show is called Real Life. I have authored one book "Picking Up My Shattered Pieces" and enjoy encouraging those going through loss and grief. I am also skilled in helping those struggling through life transitions: divorce, prodigal child, career changes, etc. I think being real and ridding one's self of pretense is the key to living in the Kingdom. It's a process for sure, and it keeps us on our toes! I love helping other's as they seek those deep parts of their soul.

I received my training at Talbot School of Theology in their Institute of Spiritual Formation program. My name is Elizabeth Payne. I have been involved in Youth Ministry both in the United States and in Ecuador. It is my desire to do ministry from a posture of abiding IN CHRIST and remembering that apart from Him I can do nothing (Jn. 15). I have lived overseas for 2/3 of my life, first as a Third Culture Kid/Missionary Kid, and then as an adult serving the Lord with my husband and children in Ecuador. How are we to navigate in this world unless we walk together? The story of the Emmaus walk, where two deeply troubled friends walked together without answers, exemplifies what I believe spiritual direction to be. It took a while for Jesus to reveal Himself to them and then just as suddenly the two were alone again - with each other.

I don’t presume to have answers to life’s questions but I do want to walk along the way with others as they discover their own questions and sometimes the answers. I consider this “alongside ministry” a deep joy and privilege and am continually learning ways to help others go deeper in knowing God.

I received my direction training in Los Angeles through CFDM in 2011-2012 and I’ve been walking with new spiritual friends ever since.

In monthly sessions, I may suggest the use of the arts, Lectio Divina, various forms of prayer, poetry, and other creative ways to hear from God. Above all, I listen and I care for souls.

I am an ordained elder with the Global Methodist Church. I earned a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary in pastoral studies and a doctorate in spiritual direction from Houston Graduate School of Theology. I studied as a spiritual direction intern at the Oblate Theological Seminary in San Antonio, Texas, for three years.

My main focus as a spiritual director is to respond to God's creation that builds up the kingdom through individuals who long for a touch and direction from the Spirit of God. My rule of practice is prayer, reading of the holy Scriptures, discernment, wisdom from experience, and recognize that the Spirit of God is the director within every session. God cultivates the fruit of the journey. I believe in the Kingdom concept of the already but not yet--individuals are kingdom people at present but the fullness of our lives is still unfolding according to his purpose. My goal with every individual is to learn how to become a soul friend.

I served thirty-five years in the military as a chaplain and am a trained clinical hospital chaplain. My skills are working with older adults, death and dying, veterans, officiating funerals, visiting the sick, and listening to stories. I have mentored and journeyed with persons who discern the call to different ministry vocations. While in the military, the ministry with mortuary affairs, wounded warriors, counseling military personnel, and reintegrating families back into the states from overseas was a blessing. I was a pastor for thirteen years in the local church. I enjoy facilitating Bible studies and clergy as a group.

I am a lifelong single person, living with my twin sister and two beloved felines. Tending to the body, mind, and spirit is essential to a holistic balance. I walk daily listening to suitable Scripture lessons and sermons, and I love to bake my bread. I enjoy God's creation through birds, constellations, and animals.

One of my greatest joys is sitting with others and listening to their stories. This is why I love spiritual direction. Through being attentive to the Holy Spirit’s presence and voice, I offer a sacred and safe space where you can share life’s joyful adventures as well as painful sufferings. Together we will experience a sacred place of grace, encouragement, and compassion, prayerfully discerning the movement of God in your life.
My husband and I have been married for 45 years. We served as pastor and wife of churches in Texas and Missouri before we were called as missionaries to Venezuela where we served for 12 years. We raised two children on the mission field who are now married and have blessed us with six amazing grandchildren.
I am a certified spiritual director and life coach. My journey has included teaching 3rd grade and ELL in public schools as well as teaching piano.

Belovedness captured my heart at a Soul Care retreat in the Colorado Mountains in 2018. I have never been the same. I will never go back. Discovering that I was God's Beloved has changed me profoundly. This transformed me, and now it informs everything I do. I want everyone I encounter to discover, embrace, and live out their Belovedness.

It changed my life to know that my Belovedness is not based on performance but upon a relationship with God, whose very nature is love. Spiritual Direction provides a grace-filled, safe environment to plumb the depths of God’s love. As a spiritual director, I delight in walking with other people helping them deepen their love relationship and friendship with God.

I bring to spiritual direction more than 45 years of life experience as a pastor and missionary (overseas and nationally). I’ve experienced both great joys and devastating heartaches in life and ministry. There have been victories and brokenness, but God’s grace has been sufficient, and He never stopped working to bring me to this moment in my spiritual journey.

At the Soul Care retreat mentioned above, I experienced spiritual direction for the first time. I’ve never gotten over that, either. In that loving, safe place, I began to share the condition of my soul. It needed healing, it was hurting, and I didn’t know what to do. I shared hopes and dreams as well as brokenness and pain. I have never felt more loved and safe.

I then enrolled in the Soul Care Institute, a two-year intensive study of learning to care for your total person - Body, Soul, and Spirit - for your sake and the sake of others. Spiritual direction was an integral part of the SCI. God has worked greatly in my life through spiritual direction and ultimately I have become a spiritual director.

I have a passion for walking with others on their spiritual journeys. I want to journey with them toward Belovedness and caring for their soul. As two people listen together to the Holy Spirit as spiritual friends and companions, God will speak, His love will be revealed, and lives will be touched in new and vibrant ways. I would love to walk with you toward a deeper friendship with God.

I am certified in spiritual direction through the Selah Center for Spiritual Formation in Nashville, Tennessee, and in Soul Care through the Soul Care Institute. I hold a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry (in Pastoral Ministry) from Southwestern Theological Seminary.

My wife, Kristi (also a spiritual director), and I have been married for over 47 years. We have two married children and seven amazing grandchildren. I served as pastor of churches in Texas and Missouri. We served as international missionaries in Venezuela for 12 years. I recently retired after serving the Bledsoe Association of Churches for 26 years as their Association Mission Strategist.
