About Me

When I began receiving Spiritual Direction on a regular basis nine years ago, my life was forever changed. I was burnt out from years of ministry in lonely, dry situations, confused about my next steps, and spiritually and emotionally tanked. Through time with my Spiritual Director, I began to experience God’s love for me independently of my performance in ways I had never experienced before. Eventually I felt God calling me to become a Spiritual Director myself so that I could invite others to sit under the loving, gentle gaze of God. I received my training in Spiritual Direction through Sustainable Faith in 2021. Before that, I also received an M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 2007. I have worked in ministry all of my adult life, including college ministry, inner city ministry, and in a church setting working with young adults. I was ordained as a pastor in 2012.
I am married with two daughters. I love hiking with my family and just being in nature, experiencing God’s beauty through creation. I also love drinking coffee, enjoying a good meal with friends or family, reading, and traveling. I have no greater joy than to sit across from another person and witness them encountering God in new ways. I would love to be a part of your journey with God. I enjoy coming alongside others as they seek to hear the still small voice and go deeper in their journey with God. After experiencing burnout from work and life overseas, my husband and I took an intentional Sabbatical year in 2013 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. During this time I began to meet with a spiritual director who helped me hear God's Voice of Love in my life. My journey has been one of learning to hear the Voice of Love where I have often only heard the voice of fear. My healing journey continues, and has given me a passion to help others hear the Voice of Love in their own lives. I completed a 2 year Spiritual Direction training through Selah Leadership Transformations Inc. in 2016 and finished my Supervision training for spiritual directors in 2023 through the Companioning Center. I live in Vero Beach, Florida with my husband, two teenage boys and Ruby, our beloved dog! I am available to meet with you online or in person. Hi! My given name is Amanda, but if that seems too formal you can also call me Mandy.

Spiritual Direction found me in 2015 when a mentor of mine began formal training as a spiritual director. I had never heard of such a thing, but the experience has been so life giving to me personally. Pursuing spiritual direction training was a transformative experience in my life. I have personally gone through seasons of doubt and confusion surrounding faith. I continue to come back to Jesus because I have too much evidence of His existence and goodness to go anywhere else. That being said I am comfortable sitting with you in the middle places of faith where it is ok to say ‘I don’t know.’

I am the special needs ministry coordinator at Vineyard Columbus and it is truly my dream job! My academic background is in social work and special education from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction has trained me as a spiritual director and it is a great joy to journey with you towards a deeper experience with the love and presence of God.

I am a native of Ohio, but I have a serious case of wanderlust and try to travel at any chance I get. Things I enjoy include humor, coffee, cooking for people, conversations, hikes and cozy British books and films. Things I do not enjoy include activity after 9 pm, math, pants that are too tight and humidity. I am married to a very handsome electrician and we live in Worthington, OH with our two spirited daughters and puppy.

About Me

My commitment to spiritual formation emerged from a period of burnout (circa 2005) when I was simultaneously engaged in extensive international travel and cross-cultural ministry as the Missions Director for my denomination while also pursuing a PhD at Fuller. From that painful period came a deep desire to continue engaging with God’s mission in the world while also giving significant attention to my own personal relationship with God. I have led spiritual formation retreats all over the world with pastors and leaders from a variety of cultures. My passion is helping leaders cultivate their own transforming relationship with Jesus as they find new ways to engage with God’s work in the world. Before focusing on missions, I re-planted and pastored a local congregation for more than twenty years.

I have been particularly impacted by the spirituality of Ignatius of Loyola as well as Eastern Orthodoxy, and have received extensive graduate training in both areas. I give substantial attention to my own relationship with Jesus including the daily practice of the Jesus Prayer, the prayer of Examen and lectio Divina. I have met monthly with the same spiritual director since 2006, and frequent a Benedictine monastery for regular personal retreats.

I have helped a growing number of churches/groups in a process of communal discernment. I particularly enjoy helping people in transition to discern God’s emerging direction.

We have three grown children (one of whom is adopted) and a bevy of grandchildren. Long ago I was a Navy FMF Corpsman with the USMC.

I trained in spiritual direction at San Francisco Theological Seminary.

For the last twelve years she has served with Vineyard Missions as part of a team of spiritual directors who minister, both internationally and in the US, through “Leader Care” spiritual formation retreats. She has led retreats all over the world in countries that currently include Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, England, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Nepal, Cambodia and Thailand. Karen also has significant experience working as a certified life coach, especially with those navigating major life transitions and Christian leaders needing professional coaching as well as personal spiritual direction. Experiencing such personal grace is the necessary precursor to extending the kindness and love of God in service to others.

Karen Fields has served as a certified spiritual director and professional life coach for the past twelve years. She pastored with her husband over twenty years, as well as working as a public school teacher for 25 years. Karen received her spiritual director training first with CFDM's L.A. cohort (Christian Formation & Direction Ministries) in 2011, and later continued growing as a spiritual director by earning a Certificate in the Art of Spiritual Direction through the Graduate School of Theology of Redlands, California. Karen has celebrated 43 years of marriage, and is the mother of three adult children and nine adorable grandchildren.

Her private spiritual direction practice is largely online using Skype, Zoom, FaceTime, Google Hangout, etc., building relationships with individuals from a variety of cross-cultural backgrounds.

This disorientation can come from a loss of identity, career transition, the death of a loved one, or shattered dreams. I serve people who need a companion to come alongside them to support, understand, and process feelings as they express their true hearts to God. I encourage people to discover a new sense of wholeness in Christ, even if it feels like pulling a heavy stone up a steep hill.

When there is a crisis, there is often a call for a new way of living. God is the ultimate healer, and spiritual direction is an opportunity to invite Him in openly and honestly. It has been one of the most influential parts of my healing journey.

I delight in walking alongside others as they seek to discern God’s presence and voice, exploring questions, doubts, desires, dreams, and struggles– the stuff of real life, whether in upbeat times or when struggling and feeling spiritually weary. Our meetings include prayer and listening in the context of a three way conversation between the person I am with, me, and God, who is the true director.

I live life with a sense of wonder and a curiosity about God’s ways in the world, desiring to become ever more attentive to his voice. As I meditate on the beauty of God’s work, I search for his “fingerprints” in life and creation that give evidence of his presence when it may not be obvious, and it’s my hope that through meeting with directees and through my artwork others see and appreciate that as well.

I prefer to live on the quieter side of life, often with paintbrush or pen in hand, and I lead “Sketching as Prayer” retreats, when together we search for God’s fingerprints in the world around us and enter into prayer through the pages of our sketchbooks.

I graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Animal Science. After marrying, I homeschooled our three children until they went to college, then worked as a professional dog trainer, which gave me many opportunities to connect with people through their relationship with their dogs. I can often be found sketching, hiking with my husband and our dogs, traveling to visit our children and grandchildren, or reading with a mug of tea. A few of my favorite authors are C. S. Lewis, Eugene Peterson, Ruth Haley Barton, and Richard Foster.

I am married 34 years this April to my wonderful husband Tarrance C. Floyd- Pastor and we have two amazing adult children and four delightful grandchildren. We have loved and served together for 22 years this May at the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Wichita, Kansas. I have been blessed to serve in various roles, Director of Ministries, women's ministry, children and youth ministries and many others at Mt. Gilead. One of my great joys has been leading Mt. Gilead and other volunteers from around the city to provide a summer music camp to the youth of our community that exposed them to the arts as well as the love of Jesus.

Leading women's groups, being a church secretary, co-leading Home Groups, having training in two inner-healing prayer ministries, and the completion of Sustainable Faith's intensive two-year Spiritual Direction course has prepared me to follow my heart's desire of seeing God’s work in others lives through spiritually directing women. Besides being a wife, mother, and grandmother, things I enjoy are being in nature, reading, knitting, art, hospitality, and travel.

The journey of coming along-side others in their connection or lack of with God; paying attention to the life of God within each individual; offering moments to pause and let one’s story unfold is sacred, dear space.

Eugene Peterson shares that “It is easier to find guides, someone to tell you what to do, than someone to be with you in a discerning, prayerful companionship as you work it out yourself. This is what spiritual direction is.” I agree and am blessed to be a part of the ministry of spiritual direction.

Sitting with directees of all ages - youth to young adults to the well seasoned; all vocations - ministry, corporate, education, homemakers, parents, grandparents - draws me into the variety of stages and roles we hold in life. I love to help others focus on knowing God. Sometimes it is hard, in the midst of life circumstances, to keep connected to God the Father, to walk with Jesus or to hear the Holy Spirit's whisper. Let's seek that together!

I'm particularly passionate about spiritual direction because this is what God made me for and love partnering with God on behalf of another. I have seen people moving forward in places they were stuck, beginning to feel loved by God when they didn’t think they’d ever feel it and gaining new insight into themselves and how God wants them to grow and transform.

About Me

I became interested in spiritual direction in 2014 when I realized that I was spending a lot of time “doing church” but really longed for a deeper and more intimate connection with God. I wanted to learn how to spend time with God in prayer and to hear His voice in my life.

Through spiritual direction, God has nurtured my soul and drew me closer to Him. This deeper connection has sustained me through several life changes over the past few years. Spiritual direction has helped me navigate these changes and to discern God’s direction for me.

At some point in my journey I felt invited to become a spiritual director myself, so that I could be with others as they navigate life and seek God. I received training and a graduate certificate in spiritual direction through the Center for Sustainable Faith. I am deeply blessed as a spiritual director to journey with others and to see God’s handiwork in their lives.

My husband and I attend Bridge to Grace Covenant Church in Roswell Georgia where I serve as discipleship ministry lead and women’s bible study teacher.

Sometimes in life, we do feel like we are in a strange cave. We find ourselves in dim lighting or complete darkness, fearful or confused, stuck, angry, weary, sometimes on the verge of despair, sometimes hanging on to our faith. Other times in life, we don’t feel like we are in a dark cave per se, but we feel internally compartmentalized, distant from God, or unexplainably yearning for more. Spiritual direction is like having a companion armed with a small, lit candle, offering encouragement, perspective, prayer, listening, and advocacy.

It’s my honor to sit with you wherever you find yourself, to listen to your story and help discern where God has been and what he might be doing now. I will offer non-judgmental listening and empathy, and a space to really open the things of the heart to another person and ultimately to God.

I have weathered a lot of life with the Lord. I can attest to his goodness, his power and his faithfulness to our continual transformation. My passion in the areas of theology, psychology and art are integrated in my style of direction. I utilize a unique prayer garden in my direction when needed.

Something personal about me: I love sitting around a table, in the presence of loved ones, with good food and drink, laughing hard and sharing stories that shore up our faith. I enjoy reading, writing, quiet paddle boarding, loud music concerts, and people… I love people.
