It is a joy for me to sit with people in the presence of the Holy Spirit, as He helps them listen to their hearts and hear God’s heart, and as we respond together to His invitation to a deeper journey with the Father.

Having served in cross-cultural ministry since 1979, I have a particular burden for broken people like myself, especially if they are current or aspiring Christian leaders, pastors,missionaries or those dealing with trauma. My husband and I and our children lived for 14 years on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where I worked as a nurse midwife with Afghan refugee women.

My years in Asia, and 7 years working with patients, students and internationals in Oxford, UK, helped me learn how to walk softly with people who have deep wounds that only God can heal, often in the presence of another caring soul.

I received an MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from Talbot Seminary in 2011, and was trained by Larry Warner in leading others through the Ignatian exercises. I have served informally as a Spiritual Director for over 25 years, and formally since 2010.

I am currently working at Biola University with seminary students and leading groups and retreats. I continue to supervise and provide pastoral care to workers serving overseas. I have been married 40 years, and have three adult married children, four grandsons, and a dog. I love gardening, reading, ethnic foods and cooking, traveling, and walking in nature.

I am a graduate of Talbot School of Theology with an MDiv in Spiritual Formation where I received training as a spiritual director. In 2021 I graduated from Adler Graduate School with an MA in Adlerian Counseling and Psychotherapy, with an emphasis on Marriage and Family. I currently working as a Therapist with LifeStance, providing both outpatient and community based services.

My interest in spiritual formation exercises began in 2011 while participating in a formational journey with other women in ministry. Here I learned a language of Christian spirituality that was different from the theology and doctrines I grew up with. It was a language of heart – not just of mind and body.

My continued interest led me to Portland Seminary (formerly George Fox Evangelical Seminary) where I completed a three-year Master in Ministry with a Spiritual Direction Specialization. I am also an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God.

I love the illustration of our journey with God as a dance. Sometimes we dance with grace and beauty. Sometimes we miss a step here and there. Other times we have no idea if we’re even listening to the same beat as our Lead Dancer.

As a Spiritual Director, I desire to help you find your personal rhythm in your walk with Christ. It’s not about showing you a process or strategy. I won’t show you my steps. Instead, I will encourage you in your discoveries about yourself and about God.

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:25

Today I prayed for each person that would view this website as they seek to find a spiritual director that they could share their life with. So, I have prayed for you.

God has given me a heart to walk alongside people since I was a little girl. I have walked through much loss as well as personal illness in my life and all of this has been used to give me a tender heart towards others.

Throughout the last 21 years, I have worked as a community health nurse and have specialized in working with pregnant women, adult primary care, health promotion and caring for people living with HIV. I have my Masters in pastoral Counseling from Westminster Seminary and my certificate in Spiritual Direction. I plan on being a life long learner.

I love spending time with people, missions, inner city ministries, and mentoring. I also love being outdoors, walking on the beach, rollerblading, traveling and learning new things.

My favorite thing to do is to deeply listen to others and to seek to listen to God alongside of others.

In my early years of ministry, I spent about a decade working and ministering in cross-cultural settings on Native American reservations in the southwest. Over the years I ministered with various non-profit organizations as well as in congregational settings. I'm passionate about providing a safe place created by prayer and partnership with the Spirit of God. My goal is not to be the person to give you answers but to help you learn to bring your questions honestly before God and find hope, acceptance and love in his presence.

By God’s grace, I am moving toward peace and growth in my home and heart. Here are a few examples, God is leading me back from misconceptions and lies that I carry about him and about myself. In my head, I might know that God loves me, but from time to time – there’s a sore spot in my heart that’s forgotten or afraid and needs to accept more love and healing. As a spiritual director I have a front row seat where I get to watch God work in the lives of the individuals with whom I meet. Helping others hear and respond to God’s voice is one of the greatest privileges any man could ever experience. Some define spiritual direction as “holy listening” and if that means “listening to the Holy Spirit” then I totally concur with that definition for truly the Holy Spirit is the ultimate spiritual director

I was first introduced to the idea of spiritual direction in 2001 when I enrolled in a nine-month version of Ignatius’s Spiritual Exercises. This ultimate lead me to pursue a Certificate in Spiritual Direction at George Fox Evangelical Seminary. Prior to that experience my studies at Dallas Theological Seminary (ThM) and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (DMin) had provided me with a solid biblical and theological grid from which to launch into spiritual theology.

Since beginning pastoral ministry in two small church in rural South Dakota, I have pastored congregations in Khartoum, Sudan in East Africa; Mission, KS; Portland, Oregon and currently in Longview, Washington. From 1990 until 2008 I taught a variety of Spiritual Formation Courses at Multnomah Biblical Seminary where I am currently serving as an adjunct professor. For five years my wife and I also hosted a retreat center for pastors and their spouses.

My wife, Evelyn, and I have enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. We have been blessed with three children, all of whom are currently walking with the Lord and who are providing spiritual leadership to our nine grandchildren.

As a spiritual director I am privileged to work with any Christ-follower who desires to move forward in their spiritual journey, but I do feel a special affinity towards pastors and their special soul care needs.

Are you in the midst of decision-making and wish for someone to prayerfully listen as you seek to discern your way? Do you ever wish for someone who will compassionately hear and carefully hold the stories that you hesitate to tell others, while bringing them before God? Are you longing to know and grow in God more deeply, and to more often recognize His presence in your day to day life, no matter what the circumstances? I offer the ministry of contemplative spiritual direction to accompany you on your journey, contemplative in the sense that, while knowing that words are important, so is the silence that allows the space and time to hearken to the Spirit’s voice. I offer in-person spiritual direction in my home in the Dillsburg, PA area, as well as long-distance through Skype and Zoom platforms. I also offer the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius in Daily Life.
A bit about me…My husband and I share our rural life with 3 goats, 6 chickens, a seemingly infinite number of native bees, butterflies and birds, frogs, salamanders and wild mammals who come to our abundant gardens and small pond, evidence of my heart’s desire for restoration and nurture of the land as well as people. While steeped in contemplative, Ignatian spirituality and offering the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius to those whom God brings, the prayers of the ancient Celtic Christians that recognized and experienced God in the mundane and uncertainties of everyday life, in the wildness of the natural world and in the close Presence of Jesus, have become my soul’s own language.
My church background is varied. God called me into faith as a high schooler and, in fits and starts, that faith has grown through the years, including a three year gardening education assignment with Mennonite Central Committee in Botswana, raising my three home-educated children in the Brethren in Christ (an evangelical Anabaptist) denomination, serving at the altar in a small Episcopal church in the Washington, DC area and more recently, moving back to rural south-central Pennsylvania.
I am a contemplative, a naturalist and a gardener, making a place for God’s creatures to thrive and for people to find God’s Presence in the peace and quiet that surrounds our home. I also keep a blog entitled Earthy Blessings, https://earthyblessings.blogspot.com/ exploring the intersection of relationship with God and the natural world.
I have experienced enough grief and struggle in my life to realize that none of us makes it to heaven unscathed and know the value of the safe and comforting space that spiritual direction provides.
