Dr. Brenda Dinell

Brenda’s passion is to facilitate spiritual formation in others as a companion on their journey. She has her Doctor of Ministry degree from Phoenix Seminary where she also completed her Masters of Divinity in Spiritual Formation. Brenda is a trained Spiritual Director who graduated from Leadership Transformation Inc.’s Selah Program.

Brenda’s life purpose is to anchor the wounded with God’s love (Hebrews 6:19). She leads a Bible Study for women who have been diagnosed with PTSD. Brenda is a Spiritual Director with the family room, llc., a Center for Psychotherapy, Member Care, and Spiritual Direction. She is available for Spiritual Direction in-person, online, or by phone.

Even in faith communities, people rarely talk openly about their struggles in the faith. As much as we tout prayer, my hunch is that most of us don’t—at least not as often and as deeply and as satisfyingly as Scripture promises possible. I like the idea of talking and praying and encouraging one another on the path.
I pursued the study of spiritual direction because I wanted to learn and grow in my own faith. I wanted to learn more about prayer and about how others throughout Christian history have experienced faith and prayer. I am still learning.
I can think of nothing more important than having the privilege of praying for and encouraging others in similar pursuit. My own spiritual director continues to tremendously bless my life and faith; it is my privilege to offer this gift to others.
I received my certification in spiritual direction in 2017 from Christos Center and my certification in spiritual formation in 2023 from Ruth Haley Barton's Transforming Center.

As a native of Colorado, I love to ski and hike and do most everything the Rocky Mountains provide.

My understanding of God began as a college student, where I learned about prayer, bible study, and knowing God desires a close friendship with everyone, everywhere.

God reoriented my life so much during this time that after graduation and marrying my husband, Dave, we joined the staff of a worldwide interdenominational Christian ministry. The majority of the past 37 years found us working with college students, but recently working with professors.

I understand the complexities of being married to a ministry leader while juggling the demands of children and ministry as I served alongside my husband and raised our three children. Now we are experiencing the joys of an empty nest and relating to our adult children and grandchild.

After a “dark night of the soul” season, I attended Ruth Haley Barton’s Transforming Center and received a Certificate in Spiritual Transformation. More than a certificate though, I learned new ways to open my heart to the work of God's Spirit and receiving the dark night as God tenderly leading me to deeper places with Him. My spiritual director was instrumental in helping me process this change.

My training in spiritual direction took place through Listening People to Life in Sioux Falls, SD. At the same time I attended Sioux Falls Seminary and earned a Master of Bible & Theology with and emphasis in Intercultural Studies.

My ministry experience includes evangelism and discipleship, teaching both small and large groups, and coaching international missionaries. I've led others in leadership development and understanding in emotional health. I enjoy leading spiritual and prayer retreats.

I understand a spiritual director to be a fellow companion, whose role is not to direct, but walk alongside through prayer, listening, questions, and spiritual practices.

As you find yourself longing for more, seeking God in the desert places, processing life changes and transitions, discerning next steps, or simply wanting to be more attuned to the voice of God, I offer you a sacred companion along your journey of life.

I am a minister and spiritual director in the Pacific Northwest seeking to serve and support people in the way of Jesus.

I care deeply for people who are looking for spiritual support within and beyond the church in pursuit of growth, healing, and connection. I have walked with men and women; young and old; church leaders, church members, and those who don’t go to church.

I trained in spiritual direction at Portland Seminary, received a Master of Divinity from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, studied biblical text at Abilene Christian University, and currently serve as minister at the Federal Way Church of Christ.

Journeying with others is a joy, I have been offering Spiritual Direction since 2004. I graduated with an MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care in 2005. Walking with another as we listen for the Holy Spirit's leading is something I feel called too. I often journey with those struggling with sexual brokenness due to my own story and the other trainings in trauma I have been through. Stories matter to me, so let me take a bit of mine. I am a follower of Jesus, Father, and leader being transformed by the love of Jesus and transforming into the man He would have me become.

In 2019, my life was radically changed when my wife of 15 years was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer and passed seven months later. Suddenly, I found myself a widower and single parent trying to walk with Jesus through the valley of grief, loss, and identity. Along the way, I’ve developed some deep passions to support the spiritual health of Christian leaders, help men grow to encounter the love and grace of Jesus, and help others navigate seasons of transition and grief.

I also have the awesome privilege of serving as a Spiritual Director and writer reflecting on the journey of discipleship and transformation in Christ. For the last 20 years, I’ve had the honor of walking alongside people and encouraging them in this journey of faith. I’ve served as a youth, discipleship, and lead pastor in a variety of settings and contexts. In 2022, I completed training in Spiritual Direction with Paseo Communities and am excited to continue deepening in this work.

My journey of walking alongside others began more than thirty years ago within a church sponsored Al-Anon recovery program. This is the place where I caught a vision for how a grace-filled safe space can be fertile ground for the Lord to transform. I find such deep joy in seeing heart mended, images of God transformed, and lives redeemed.

Discovering that the ministry of Spiritual Direction and the potential it has to bring this same kind of grace filled safe space to the church, I chose to become trained and in 2018 completed the Selah Spiritual Direction Training program through Leadership Transformation Inc.

I've been married since 1981, am an adoptive mom, have grown children, am a blessed Grammy to Lily, enjoy my two beloved Havanese pups named Chloe & Cocoa, and am a transplant to the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas from So California. You can learn a bit more about me at my website listed below.

Hi, I’m Michael Duffin, my wife Carolann and I live in Plano Texas just north of Dallas, I have 4 grown boys. I am a graduate of the 2-year Selah certification training program in spiritual direction. I love the outdoors and the beauty of that which was created by our Lord. My calling for years has mostly been Outreach and Disciplining Men and Encouraging them in their relationship with the Lord, mostly through a ministry called CBMC, in addition I am involved with Grafted Life Ministries as a Life with God Small Group Leader and a Board Member. I’m the Founder of the Frisco Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast that takes place every year on the 2nd Wednesday of October.

In addition, to the outdoors, I love sports and spending time with God, family, and friends. I much favor - sitting in that quiet space where I can listen to another Christian and to God as we discern together what God is doing and how he is doing it. That space is Spiritual Direction.

My paying job - I’m an HVAC Contractor and a VP of a small commercial A/C and controls company in North Texas and have been in this trade all of my adult life.

As a spiritual director, the most important relationship in our life is the one we have with the triune God. Sometimes, we are deeply aware of God’s presence in our lives, intimately connected. Other times, we may find ourselves feeling uncertain, disconnected, or unaware of our relationship in day-to-day life. Do you feel stuck in your relationship with God? Do find yourself knowing things about God, but have trouble believing or feeling them to be true? Do you long to experience even more of God in your daily life, to have a conversational, close relationship with God? Spiritual direction can be a place to explore these questions with God.

My heart deeply longs for people to be heard and understood, to be known. At its core, spiritual direction is a listening relationship. I will listen attentively to you, and together, we will be seeking to listen to God, the true Director. My hope is that through this kind of listening relationship, you will experience deeper intimacy with God with all of your being: heart, mind, soul, and strength.

I am a trained spiritual director with a Graduate Certificate in Spiritual Direction, along with a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling, from Richmont Graduate University. I've been offering Spiritual Direction since 2014 in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles County. My training was with the Art of Spiritual Direction through the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange in Orange, CA. My practice is informal, contemplative and always respectful of a directee's sacred story. My goal is to provide a safe and welcoming space for someone to tell this story. Together we will explore the directee's relationship with God; asking what God is saying and doing in their life, and seeking God's direction for major choices that need to be made. And always, anything that is said in a meeting is held in strictest confidence.

Spiritual life is so much more than simply listening to a lecture or watching people on a stage sing in song. We can’t just HEAR good words. We need to find people we can trust to help us grow in intimacy with God and live out the consequences of that intimacy together. About Me

Spiritual direction was a term I had heard of but knew little about. I was seeing a counselor in the wake of some dark waters that I was going through, and she invited me to join a spiritual direction group that she was starting. While I entered that first meeting with a bit of apprehension, I soon felt welcomed, accepted and heard. On the way home that first night, I sensed God’s invitation to pursue training as a spiritual director.
It was a privilege to be in that group for over two years, and while some left and others came, a deep bond developed as together we laughed and cried, prayed with and for one another and deepened our communion with the Father.
Two years after that first meeting, I entered the Healing Care certificate program in Spiritual Formation and the Art of Spiritual Direction, completing the program in August, 2021.

Raised in a mainline church, I came to personal faith as a teen, then attended a four year Bible college, and received a B.A. in Biblical Education. For many years I served in our local church as an elder, teacher and missions leader. I have personal experience in recovery and as a result have compassion for those who struggle. Experiencing the love and grace of Jesus through those who ministered to me in that time, created the desire to extend the same to others.

I retired from a career in Information Technology, and now I know what I want to do when I grow up! It is my desire to see people draw closer to God and experience intimacy with him. I value silence and solitude, connection and intimacy with God, justice, lifelong learning, and family.

Through spiritual practices, prayer and the Word and sometimes silence, I seek to provide a safe space where you can explore whatever you may come with, and together seek the Lord.

My wife and I have been married for over 40 years. We have two grown children and six amazing grandchildren. We live near Milwaukee, in Cedarburg, Wisconsin.
I am available to meet in my home or on Zoom.

We are all on a sacred journey. As a spiritual director, I will walk alongside you as you travel your personal path. I will be a witness to your story and provide a safe space to contemplate your questions. We will search for and discern the presence of God in each twist and turn of your trail.

My own journey began when I met Jesus at a young age and continued to follow Him. I eventually encountered trauma, grief, heartache, and shame along my road. As a result, I lost my direction and questioned everything I had believed to be true. God patiently guided me to a spacious place and a faith that could hold me. Even when I wasn’t sure there was a God, or if I wanted to know Him, He gently led me to His heart of love and grace where I found rest for my soul.

Spiritual direction was a crucial guidepost on my quest for peace. After several years of meeting with a spiritual director, I began to sense a call to this ministry of listening. I was trained in the art of spiritual direction through Christos Center for Spiritual Formation. The special companions on my journey are my husband, children, and grandchildren. The bright spots on my way are books, beaches, and brunch.

Anyone listening? At times, we simply need someone who can listen to our story and help us see God. Let us talk and listen together.

An empathetic listener open to discuss what is on your mind and heart. I have a burden for people who are hurting from relationship issues, ongoing health concerns, loss and grief. The pressures of society dealing with racial reconciliation can make life hard and confusing trying to find your niche.

Outdoors in nature I find my greatest connection with God. Sitting by the ocean when on vacation. Enjoying the expanse of Lake Superior and her various moods. Walking through my neighborhood taking in the seasonal changes as well as listening to the birds and greeting a friendly dog and its companion. My own small garden provides many hours of digging in the dirt and watching the various plants blooming through the summer. Sunshine and new life and color lift my spirits.

A committed life-long learner, I graduated as a spiritual director in 2014 from Christos Center for Spiritual Formation in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. Interest in energy healing led me to Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry Certified Healing Practitioner in 2019. Certified Aromatherapist 2020, exploring the use of therapeutic Essential Oils to promote healing. Bible study for me has changed over the years to slowly take in what God is saying as I become more intimate with His character revealed in a vital relationship. Currently exploring cross-cultural issues through reading various authors and through discussion on the issues of racial disparity. I enjoy meeting people of other ethnicities.

Exploring my creative side, found me taking various classes in painting – Acrylic, Watercolor, and Oil Pastels – what fun creating some art for my walls and making some greeting cards. Additionally, I took a Contemplative Photography class learning to wait for the photo to “speak” to me before snapping and then “listening” to what the photo wants to reveal.

Married since 1973 to Jim, my best friend and life partner. Without children of our own, God blessed us with surrogate children and grandchildren that we could nurture as well as the children of friends. We have traveled to visit these various “children of love” who call us Aunt and Uncle. Other travel adventures included destination tours around the United States, to Prague in Europe to encourage a group of missionaries, and our annual quiet week of relaxation on Minnesota’s beautiful North Shore along the western side of Lake Superior. Relaxation for both includes reading novels by a variety of authors and discussing the creativity of the author’s imagination of characters and drama. Hiking the Superior Hiking Trail together feels like an adventure with God in creation.
