About Me

Spiritual direction is a space and time to just "be", to listen to God, to notice and pay attention to your relationship with God. It is a gift for me to come alongside others as they seek to deepen their intimacy with Him as well as consider what might be a hinderance. I have a passion for understanding how we grow spiritually and it is amazing to see and hear how God interacts and moves in our lives, sometimes even in the midst of darkness and pain as well as joy.

Part of my spiritual direction practice has included leading group silent retreats since 2007. I've also led a centering prayer group and enjoy attending intensive centering prayer retreats.
I've enjoyed teaching in depth inductive Bible studies since 2002.

Prayer and the study of God's Word are two of the primary ways God has formed me. As a result, I love to discover and share ways of being with God devotionally, such as listening prayer, centering prayer, meditative prayer and Ignatian contemplation prayer.

I received my spiritual direction training in 2006 through the Dominican Center for Religious Studies in Michigan. I completed the year long Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius in 2010 through Heart Paths in Texas. In 2020, I completed training to lead others through the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises with the Ignatian Spirituality Institute in Dallas. I have a B.S. In Mechanical Engineering from Okla. State University.

I am the mother of 3 grown children, a musician, a childhood cancer survivor, recent college graduate. My husband and I have been married since 1986 and are currently enjoying our empty nest!

My journey into spiritual direction began several years ago after a season of discernment. It was a life-changing decision. I was discerning my next season of ministry and other decisions I was facing. I started noticing the ways God was working in my life and had been working in my life all along. I learned how to pay attention to my stuck places and move beyond them to hear His gentle invitations. I was beginning to experience more freedom in my walk with Christ. This is the 'Holy Pause' of experiencing more of Christ every day.

"Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls." Jeremiah 6:16a This verse is an anchor as I begin offering spiritual direction to others. I am still on this journey of learning to find the 'good way'. It's continues to be a beautiful reminder of looking for God in my everyday life and finding rest.

I have served in many capacities in ministry and throughout my life. God has given me many opportunities to companion people in their spiritual journey. I have completed a program from Christos Center of Spiritual Formation in Spiritual Direction, Tending the Holy.

Life's greatest adventure is hearing God's still, small voice and deciding to say, 'Yes' to His invitations. Coming away from the noise and other voices, is sacred and holy space to allow the Spirit to speak. I would be honored and delighted to companion you in that adventure!

I am wife to my high school sweetheart, mom to five, three biological adult children and two sons from Ethiopia. I love hospitality, nature, reading, coffee, deep conversations.

One of the greatest privileges in my life is listening deeply to the stories of others and exploring what God is doing in the midst of everyday life. As a spiritual director, my role is to come alongside you and help you notice what God is up to in your life. No matter where you are with God - a season of trust or doubt, a moment of joy or grief, a time of growth or plateau - I would be honored to walk the journey with you. I am a licensed minister. I have been serving in various relational ministries and I found my home in spiritual direction. I received spiritual director's training from Sustainable Faith's two-year certificate program in contemplative, incarnational model. This model fits my spiritual upbringing that received a strong influence from contemplative prayer, practice of the presence of God, and Lectio Divina. I also completed Micro M.Div two-year program from The Master's Institute Seminary in Minnesota.

Spiritual Direction has been transformational in my personal life as I experience God's love and grace in many unimaginable ways. It has been a long way and God has helped me going through many obstacles in my journey and restores my image of Him as well as my self-image. The experience of being deeply loved and deeply known by God touched me deeply and allow many healings to happen in my life, which allow me to be vulnerable in my relationship with God that promotes an authentic and genuine relationship that enables deep intimacy with Him.

I find joy in offering a safe space and attentive presence in spiritual direction sessions that come from healed places in my heart. It is truly a blessing and privilege to walk with my directees in a journey of vulnerability, authenticity, and deepening intimacy with God.

I am a 34 year old born and raised Southern Californian. I am happily married and live with my artist husband and two dogs in Los Angeles.

As an individual, I have a past of struggling with an unhealthy relationship with my body and food, anxiety, and heart break. Because I have experienced the power of the Holy Spirit move in my own life and how God has been healing me in my broken spaces of life, I have a heart to create a space for women who long for healing in their own life.

I also have a heart for creating a safe place for ministry leaders and giving them a place where they can sit and process with God what He is doing in their life, feel heard, and receive spiritual care.

I have worked as a physical therapist since 2015. I also work as an adjunct professor teaching in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Azusa Pacific University.

Having worked as a full time student worker in a Christian organization in Malaysia for nearly 10 years, I have been challenged to understand how Christians grow and are transformed to be more Christ-like. After following God into a counseling career I retired 4 years ago and then God 'directed' me into Spiritual Direction. I am currently providing Spiritual Direction to 8 persons and three of those are also meeting with me for a monthly Group Direction. I am currently able to do this without charging. I have been a Stephen Ministry Leader for 8 years and continue to co-direct that ministry in my church. Practicing Contemplative prayer and journeying toward a more contemplative lifestyle, I occasionally give conversational workshops in Contemplative Prayer. I try to go on Retreat every few months and in November will attend a 3 day Retreat for Spiritual Directors at Ghost Ranch in northern New Mexico. There are no Directors in my area and this will be really helpful, to meet and learn from what others are doing. Some other interests are birding, being outdoors in general, and learning about life from the view of my sons and grandchildren...oh and struggling to keep up with my phone and computer.

I am currently located south of Denver in Colorado and received my MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care in 2017 from the Institute of Spiritual Formation in the Talbot School of Theology. I am also slated to complete a Doctor of Ministry degree in Leadership and Spiritual Formation from Portland Seminary in 2023.

I thoroughly enjoyed giving direction because of the opportunity it gives me to see God at work loving and sanctifying a brother or sister in Christ. I truly love getting to see the sheer beauty of another's soul and sharing in their gratification as they experience God's love for them in their uniqueness.

I understand spiritual direction to be a spiritual discipline we participate in, with the help of another believer, to reflect on our lives and what God is doing. This reflection helps us discern His presence with us more clearly and to move into new places of understanding and intimacy with Him.

My approach to direction is founded on the conviction that God is welcoming and accepting of our genuine selves and is particularly interested in bringing healing and wholeness to our lives, hidden heart, skills, and desires. As such, I am a director who tries to be hospitable and comforting to my directee's true self, especially as they share parts of their heart that are authentic but seem undesirable toward others or God.

Jody Thomae is an embodied spiritual director; yoga therapist; and the author of "Jesus In My Practice" and "The Rocks Cry Out," as well as two books in the Bible Studies to Nurture the Creative Spirit Within series: "God’s Creative Gift" and "The Creator’s Healing Power."

With over two decades of experience in in both ministry and body-oriented work, Jody began combining faith and fitness together in 2013. “God comes to us disguised as our life.” –Paula D’Arcy

To me, Spiritual Direction is companioning with someone in their spiritual journey for a richer relationship and encounter with God, helping them recognize God's love, movements, and invitations in their life and their circumstances. It's a safe place to process the "stuff" of life--emotions, questions, struggles.

I have been walking with Christ for 35+ years, and stumbled upon the ministry of spiritual direction, alongside silence and solitude, about 18 years ago during a time of crisis in my life when my normal faith rhythms were no longer sustaining me. I had tons of head knowledge and theology, but my heart came nowhere close to reflecting what I believed. Think a bobble-head with a grinch tiny heart. And yet, I had studied every book in the Bible and was actively involved with ministry. Something was wrong. In His kindness, Jesus has had me on a journey of becoming truly rooted and grounded in His love--the bedrock of all transformation--and has used spiritual direction, silence and solitude, and other spiritual practices to foster this in my life. My desire is to offer to others what has been a catalyst for transformation in my own life.

I have an MA in Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction from Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta. We have recently moved back to the Nashville area after having lived in Johnson City, TN for about a decade. I have been married to my wonderful, funny husband JT since 1998, have a college-aged son Cole, and two spoiled dogs named Ridge and Roan. I love hiking, gardening, reading, going on adventures, and eating yummy food with friends or family.

My greatest joy is providing a space where I can witness Jesus meeting others exactly where they are and leading them into deeper intimacy with Him and all of the beautiful gifts that entails.

My style is warm, relational, and gentle and influenced by Ignatian Spirituality, the Enneagram, Healing Prayer, and my own therapy with a gifted counselor trained through the Allender Center.

I grew up in a Christian home and attended Calvary University in Kansas City where I received a B.S. in Theology and Biblical Counseling. I spent a lot of my adult life asleep to my own gifts, passions, and calling, instead seeing my role as helping my husband and children live into their God-given callings. In my early 40's, I found myself in a place where my theological box that contained "God" wasn't big enough or strong enough to handle my current life circumstances or the trauma that had been compounding for 40 years.

In a place of complete desperation, I cried out to God. He met me in the most personal and tender ways. He eventually led me to complete a two-year Advanced Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction cohort program through Moody Bible Institute. This was a time of deep healing and transformation where God also revealed to me "where my deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet." (Frederick Buechner)

I have lived on several continents and in several countries and states. I currently reside in Lincoln, Nebraska with my husband of 26 years and our 14-year-old son. We live minutes from our daughter and son-in-law who are expecting our first granddaughter this summer!

I love to be in the same room with my directees, but I also offer Zoom sessions if you don’t live in Lincoln, Nebraska, or if you feel safer not meeting in person because of the pandemic.

As a fellow pilgrim on the journey, I long to come alongside you in the quiet, deep work of the Lord. I hold space for your mind, body and spirit to listen to the Spirit. I was introduced to the ancient practice of spiritual direction as I trained as a 200-hour yoga teacher with The Yoga Abbey and received my training from Sustainable Faith's School of Spiritual Direction.
