Spiritual direction - both offering and receiving the safe and sacred space of soul care - has been one of the greatest gifts of my life journey thus far. I discovered it in the midst of a faith crisis, and it was my tether when I had lost what felt like everything. In what seems like another lifetime, I was a Registered Nurse (for a decade!); and have been a mother for about the same length of time.

I love to sit with people in the truth of their hearts and stories - complete with doubts, pain, questions, and joys. I believe that the imagination is a largely neglected aspect of us that God loves to work in and speak through; so I tend to invite people into exploring their creativity as a prayer of openness to God. I am familiar with many different streams of the church, and some of the strengths and pitfalls of them; so I have a particular desire to be-with people who are in-process in their faith journeys and church stories.

Hi! Who am I?

Hmm, that’s probably too big a question to answer, so let’s start with a few labels: I’m a father of five, an historical theology nerd, a ministry leadership veteran, a family trauma survivor, and a recovering anxiety addict.

I grew up in Colorado and love to live in the tension of paradox. My favorite answers to deep questions are, “Yes AND No,” “I don’t know,” and “What do you mean by that?” My favorite response to seemingly contradictory theological positions is “Yes.” And I absolutely love to travel (not to arrive, but to be in a car or an airplane going somewhere!)

As a spiritual director I resonate most with the Benedictine principle of hospitality: “to welcome everyone as I would Christ.” I love to create space for others that is free of shame and open to possibility. I love to witness the story of your life that you and God are writing together; to help you listen to God and deepen your connection to him.

I welcome directees of all kinds and have a special place for pastors and ministry leaders, mothers, fathers, young professionals, and exvangelicals or other Christians working through major transitions in their relationship with God and to religion.

On the note of transitions, I myself have been through a wide range of denominational and relational changes with God. I have landed in a somewhat eclectic, liturgical, confessional-Lutheran place, and I operate from that perspective unapologetically but open-mindedly.

My name is Jonathan Bourbeau. I am a loved child of God who is learning to experience and extend God’s love in this adventure of life. I grew up in Michigan, USA but presently live seven months of the year in Latvia, Europe and the rest of the year in Steinbach, Manitoba.

Since 1993, I have had the privilege of working in Latvia with Greater Europe Mission. Church planting, student ministry, leadership and discipleship training are some of the ministries I have been involved in over the years. Before going to Latvia, I received my Bachelors through Prairie Bible College and then after being on the field for seven years, I returned to the North America to get my Masters of Arts at Columbia International University.

During the last few years, my focus has been in coming alongside and helping others flourish in all aspects of life and ministry: to be a Barnabas to Pauls and a Jonathan to Davids. In order to do this better, in 2016 I received training and eventually was certified as an associate coach (ACC) with ICF (International Coach Federation) through Creative Results Management.

My desire is to see people flourish in all areas of life, especially in their ministry and relationships. My greatest passion is to see people deepen their relationship with God which is the foundation for everything else. Enter Spiritual Direction. After a few years of experiencing deeper intimacy and growth with Jesus though the help of a spiritual director, I was invited to prayerfully consider being trained as a spiritual director. In many ways, this opportunity is what God has been leading me to, all throughout my life: to come alongside people in their walk with Jesus. Now, you might have some question about spiritual direction. I would be surprised if you didn’t. I certainly did when I was asked whether I wanted to receive spiritual direction. The following are to help answer some of your questions.

**What is a spiritual direction session like?**

In short, a spiritual director helps the believer become aware of, understand and respond to God’s work, presence and Word in his life. Though the spiritual director does touch on the directee’s past, the focus is on his experience of God’s presence and work in the present. The desire is to grow deeper in intimacy with God and in Christ-likeness.

**Is the spiritual director directive in his approach?**

Actually, no. His approach is more like host or even better a co-host, creating space and being present while God reveals His own heart as well as the heart of the person being hosted. As the directee shares, the spiritual director prays, asks open questions, makes observations from listening, in order to help the directee take notice of what God might be doing or saying.

**How much do you charge for this service?**

I consider this ministry not as a professional service but rather a personal ministry to be given as a gift. Therefore, I don’t set a certain amount for the ministry session. I ask you to prayerfully consider what you might give as a donation to our ministry. If you can contribute whatever amount through Greater Europe Mission, I would be grateful. However, if you cannot give at this time, that is totally fine! We will meet anyway. God is more than faithful to provide.

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!

My name is Jeff Brady, and I'm honored to come alongside and be a spiritual companion as you explore your relationship with God, self, and others.

As a spiritual director, my main aim is to help you get in touch, find immediate and regular familiarity, and more deeply communicate and grow in confidence with God. I began receiving spiritual direction from a local priest in 2012 and was invited to participate in a number of Ignatian and other soul companioning retreats before eventually being asked to lead. God's guidance began revealing a fresh direction in my own ministry life towards the pursuit of becoming a spiritual director. I began a formal certification process in a program at Portland Seminary and have now offered one-on-one, couples, and small group spiritual direction within and beyond a church ministry setting for over six years now. Prayerful and companionable conversations and space are my main method of spiritual direction.

I have been in part and full-time ministry for 15+ years and am an ordained minister in The Wesleyan Church. I studied psychology (B.S.) and Christian ministry (MDiv) at Indiana Wesleyan University and Wesley Seminary, respectively. In the last year, however, my wife and I have embarked on a new journey of ministry and understanding our relationship to the community we live in – we are now planting a network of house churches (Commoners House Church) in Marion, IN. The goal for this new direction is to cut through all the noise and the extras that have come to describe "churches" in our Western, capitalistic society. We want to pare Church down to its key essentials – Jesus Christ, love for God and neighbor, and helping all we come into contact with in ways they say they need.

This mindset and method of ministry has grown out of the interior work God has been doing in me for the past decade or so. After committing a sin of adultery in 2010 and nearly losing my family and losing my ministerial position and place in seminary, I have been on a journey of restoration and rediscovery since then as well as the journey of rebuilding that my wife and I have embarked upon together. Over the course of that time I've shared in that journey of deconstruction and reconstruction that so many have experienced, and walking deeper into the love of God has been a deepening source of gracious rescue.

I look forward to the opportunity to companion you as you look for God and discern the direction that has already been whispered to you by the Infinite.

I received my spiritual direction training through CFDM (Christian Direction and Formation Ministries). After years of being in direction myself, I felt a tug to go through the training to become a director. Spiritual direction has been a meaningful practice in my own journey with God. It has been a place for me to slow down and pay attention to where God has been moving in my life, or sometimes to question where I am not feeling anything!

I long to create this same kind of safe place for others. My desire is to hold space with individuals, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, as they seek to discover how and where God is uniquely working in their lives, or to process their questions and doubts without judgement or advice. In addition, having grown up as a pastor’s kid, I have great sensitivity to both the gifts and challenges a life in ministry bring.

David Brannen is an ordained Anglican minister who served 31 years in local church ministry before retiring in 2021. He continues to minister as a spiritual director to individuals and small groups.

He grew up in the Atlanta area and worked for years in business and public relations before being called to ordained ministry. He earned a master of divinity degree (M.Div.) from Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge Pennsylvania, and served for 14 years on the staff of St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, He is the founding pastor of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Versailles, Kentucky, where he served for 17 years before retiring.

David also holds a certificate in spiritual direction from the Christos Center for Spiritual Formation (christoscenter.org) and is a member of the Evangelical Spiritual Director’s Association (graftedlife.org).

His interest in becoming a spiritual director grew out of his own experience working with a director after serving for years in ministry without one. The deepening of David’s own experience of the Lord – and the impact on his ministry – was so profound that he felt called to become trained in spiritual direction so he could offer that same gift to others.

David and his wife, Claire, have been married more than 40 years. They have three grown children, two sons-in-law, and a grandson. The Brannens live in New Albany, Indiana, a community in the Louisville metro area. David’s hobbies include following college football, running and golf.

In my late thirties, I noticed that God was up to something new in my life. Until then my sense of following Christ meant seeking to know a lot about him and working to trust and obey him as best I could. But a longing for “more” kept surfacing. I longed for a deep wholeness, for an awareness of God’s presence, for joy, for a beauty that permeated life, for compassion for others and myself. But I had no idea how to get there. The saying, when the pupil is ready the teacher arrives, proved true in my own life. The need for spaciousness and rest in God's presence and the fierce gift of pain forced me to ask on a very personal level: did I really trust the goodness and presence of the Triune God?

Mercifully, through the spiritual practices of Lectio Divina, listening prayer, silence, and through my first spiritual director, I learned (and am still learning) a new way of living my life in God. As I changed, I realized I wanted to learn to be an attentive and prayerful companion to others as they live into this with God life.

I have been particularly shaped by three profound gifts. Studies at Regent College (Vancouver, British Columbia) on the wisdom of the early church fathers, the history of Christian Spirituality, contemplative listening, and the writings of Christian mystics continue to feed my desire to know God with my whole being.

Second, the gift of friends along the way led to helping form JourneyMates, a spiritual companioning small group ministry that now has groups in five different cities. Through JourneyMates and through the speaking and writing I do, others began to ask me to companion them in their spiritual journey.

About Me

My childhood was spent in a loving but atheist/agnostic home. When I came to faith in Christ in my early college years, I discovered a loving God who provided a moral compass for my life. During those busy years of school, early marriage, parenting, and career, I soaked up knowledge and found multiple satisfying ways to serve God.

My journey into spiritual direction began in my early 50’s and was generated from a sense of missing something in my spiritual walk, accompanied by a longing to experience a deeper connection with God. This path has opened my perspective concerning who God is to me, and who I am to Him. It has been a journey of discovering how to be with God, and not just what to do for Him. I have lingered, with intention, within the Ignatian exercises, experiencing transformation through imaginative prayer. I have embraced new spiritual practices and forms of prayer that were not part of my Evangelical upbringing. The contemplative life with the Trinity has been a re-awakening and a deepening of the faith that God invited me to in my young adulthood.

Feeling called to minister in this sacred space of soul care, I completed my training in spiritual direction through Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta, GA, obtaining a Master’s degree in Spiritual Formation and Spiritual Direction. I have also completed the Renovaré Institute of Spiritual Formation.

I would be delighted to walk alongside anyone who is willing to journey deeper into their understanding of God. I have been enriched by companioning young adults as they explore who God is and how the Divine reveals Himself/Herself to them. Regardless of age, I am open to pondering life’s tough questions and transitions, and to listen for God’s whisper amid the competing voices of our culture and time. My heart leans towards those in leadership roles, particularly pastors, spouses of pastors, spiritual directors in training, and individuals who minister tirelessly. With God’s help, I seek to offer each of these companionship as they consider their identity and calling.

About Me

Are you seeking a spiritual companion to notice with you how God might be showing up in your life and to relish with you God’s love as you discern God’s speaking and will in your circumstances? I would love to sit with you and listen to your story as together we sense those connections with God through scripture, prayer, contemplative silence, and holy conversation.

Yearning for a closer relationship with God, I first became acquainted with spiritual direction during my studies at Fuller Theological Seminary. Sensing God’s call to pursue this vocation, I began a search for spiritual direction training programs and to meet regularly with a spiritual director. I have found my own spiritual journey greatly enriched by having a spiritual companion to share my faith journey and to discern together God’s speaking in my life.

Originally from the Pacific Northwest, my husband Dennis and I have lived in Central Texas for over 35 years where we now are both retired from full-time employment and currently active in church and volunteer activities. My educational background includes a B.S. in nursing from Whitworth University, a Master of Nursing and Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Washington, and a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. I am a licensed Registered Nurse in Texas and have completed a two-year program in spiritual direction from the LTI Selah Certificate Program in Spiritual Direction.

Since retiring from Texas A&M University as a professor emerita of epidemiology and biostatistics, I have served in a variety of leadership capacities in my local church, including as an ordained deacon, a small-group leader, and a mission liaison.

I would enjoy exploring with you whether spiritual direction might be a practice that God might be calling you during this season of your life. Through my own life experiences, I welcome the opportunity to serve as a spiritual companion to persons ranging in age from young adults, including college students, to older adults, including those who are retired. Special areas of training and experience include personal health, public health, and healthcare; education; caregiving; and lay leadership. I do not charge for the first session as this is a time for us to discern whether our relationship in spiritual direction would be the right fit for you. I am available to meet in person (greater Austin-area), online (Zoom), and by telephone (preferably by FaceTime).

My desire as a spiritual director is to come alongside others who are desiring a deeper and more intimate relationship with God. I see spiritual direction as listening together to God to guide us in this journey, and by companioning others in prayer and discernment, to watch God lead them into a fuller awareness of His workings in their everyday lives. I have a background in nursing and psychology am presently working with Paraclete Mission Group, where I work with cross-cultural workers and teams, as well as missions and church leadership. I especially appreciate working with spiritual direction sabbatical groups for missionaries, spiritual discernment issues, and coming alongside those with issues of grief and loss.

I have a certificate in spiritual direction from the Art of Spiritual Direction Program through Loyola Marymount University, and have been married to my husband for 25 years. We reside in Southern California, where we enjoy almost anything outdoors; hiking, biking, walking and enjoying God’s beautiful creation.

About Me
It is an honor to listen and be present with another on this journey to discerning God’s work in our lives. As a spiritual director my role is to help you understand position you to experience God and His love for you and to live your life out of that love in the midst of life’s ups and downs. Through prayer and reflective listening, I will serve as the human spiritual companion to help you discern the work of the Spirit in your life.
Often times there are obstacles and deep wounds that would prevent us from experiencing God, His love for us and prevent us from hearing His voice. In those instances, we use a type of healing prayer called inner healing or formational prayer.
My Training
My training from Healing Care Ministries (HCM) enables me to practice both spiritual direction and formational prayer. I received a certificate in Formational Prayer in 2018 and a certificate in Spiritual Formation and the Art of Spiritual Direction in 2023. I have been part of a church ministry professionally as an administrator for the past 20 years.
