Hello, My name is Beth Laury. I am a second career minister leaving a career as a physical therapist when the Lord called me full-time into His service. For seven years, I served as the adult discipleship director/pastor at a metro Atlanta Church. Currently, I serve with Hearts for Eternity leading retreats both locally and internationally. In addition, I provide spiritual direction and spiritual formation support for women.

I call myself a “space maker” as I make space for others to be with God. The Holy Spirit is the one doing the work and I never forget that. I love helping people slow down and listen to the Lord. I care deeply for the struggling, broken, and suffering. I am passionate about journeying one-on-one or leading groups as others grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. By the grace of God, I often witness Christ’s work of transformation in people’s lives.

Part of my personal formation has been through the Renovaré Institute. I earned a Master of Arts in Spiritual Formation and Direction from Richmont Graduate University in Atlanta, GA. I have completed an eighteen-month training on giving the Ignatius Spiritual Exercises from the Westmont College/Martin Institute in conjunction with the Jesuit Institute of South Africa. In addition, I am a Level 1 Certified Christian Trauma Care Provider and Level II Enneagram Practitioner, though I only use these topics if the client requests. I am married with two adult daughters and I love reading, walking, cooking, and traveling.

It is my great joy to sit with others, inviting the Spirit to lead us, as we listen, and look for the Lords’ invitations to know Him more deeply. My own experience with direction has helped me to see how comforting and powerful companioning and seeking the Lord together can be to help us grow to know Jesus more intimately.

I loved serving in medical missions and church planting on the island of Trinidad with my family for ten years and I have a passion for the local church. I have led Bible studies with women and worked with children. I also have a deep love for cross-cultural ministry and am involved with our missionary care team.

My training was received from the Spiritual Formation and Soul Care program at Talbot Seminary and I am currently working as a Spiritual
Director for Biola University, working with Biola and Talbot students.

I have four adult married children, five grandchildren and two dogs. I have recently been widowed after 38 blessed years of marriage. I love reading, cooking, walking in nature, sitting by the beach, and sharing life with others.

I completed my MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care at ISF in 2018, and continue to work there as a staff director. I love getting to process life with people inside and outside of direction, through the lens of what God might be up to in the various circumstances in which we find ourselves.

I have been involved in youth ministry with high school students for 10 years at my home church, and also served in cross-cultural missions for a time in Ukraine. Throughout my years of ministry, I have walked with students, directees, and friends through exciting moments of joy, injustice and anger, deep sadness, emotional flatness, and more. After working to refugees in London, UK, and as a Christian Education Director in Worcester, MA, my past experiences and training have converged, leading me to a vocational home in spiritual direction and the pastorate. I am the part-time settled pastor of Central Baptist Church, Southbridge, MA, and founder and director of The Pilgrimage, a work of online spiritual direction and formation.

Through the Pilgrimage, I provide individual spiritual direction and group spiritual formation courses and Bible exploration. I have a particular concern to be a listening ear for those wrestling with their place in the American church and/or on the verge or in process of spiritual deconstruction. My practice is open to anyone of any or no faith affiliation, while acknowledging a Trinitarian, Jesus-centered core to my own spirituality.

* I am a Christian contemplative, which means I found healing, freedom, and purpose in the life and example of Jesus Christ through the spiritual practices of silence and solitude.

* I am a trained spiritual director who creates space for a person to pay attention to the inner movements of their soul as they explore their own spirituality and reconnect to what is true about the Sacred and themself.

* I am a trained guide for the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. The Spiritual Exercises are a powerful tool that brings about desired transformation and freedom.

* I am dedicated to helping people notice cultural and systemic environments that may affect their spirituality and their ability to experience the joy, hope, and peace of living an integrated, whole life.

* I am passionate about creating an expansive space of safety and love where people from any religious tradition can hear a voice of love and compassion that speaks deep within them.

* I have learned that questions, while confusing or frustrating, can be a threshold to something new in one's life and relationship with God. I hold the space while you wrestle with your question, and if the Spirit offers, I invite you to "see" from a different perspective.

* I am an encouraging companion who walks with you on your spiritual pilgrimage, inviting you to notice how you are experiencing God in your life.

One of my favorite quotes is, "Why are you so enchanted by this world, when a mine of gold lies within you?" (Rumi) The practice of spiritual direction is like mining for gold in your soul. It can be challenging, intricate work but comes with great and lasting rewards.

At the crossroads of every transition, questions about our identity surface. Eun is a Korean immigrant and mother of 5 bi-racial children ( from adult to single digits). Her lived experience and studies make her knowledgeable and adept at helping others navigate the unique challenges and gifts that arise from having a third-culture identity. She finds deep joy in sitting with those in transition seasons, whether as a young adult, new parent, empty nester, mid-lifer, or a seasoned soul entering into their golden years. Her admonishment is to approach critical times of change as sacred invitations for opening your schedule, mind, and heart to perceive the new and ongoing activity of the Spirit in your life.

Along with her spiritual direction training completed through Sustainable Faith, she has a B.A. in Ethnic Studies from UCSD. She has been an educator for 15 years and is currently co-administrating an afterschool tutoring program for students of immigrant parents. About Me

Before I embarked on the journey of my Spiritual Direction program at the John C. Weborg Center for Spiritual Direction at North Park Theological Seminary, I had a conversation with a friend, who is from a non-denominational evangelical tradition. I shared that I was about to begin my program. Her immediate question was: “What is spiritual direction?” Around the same time, I had a conversation with another friend, who is from a Roman Catholic tradition and when I shared that I am beginning my class on spiritual direction, her response was: “Why, as an evangelical, are you learning about spiritual direction? This is more in line with the Catholic tradition.” So the two questions—“What is spiritual direction?” and “Why spiritual direction?”—felt like twin lighthouses that have guided my calling as a spiritual director.

As I recall my past spiritual history, I believe that I have always been involved in spiritual direction although I did not use the phrase “spiritual direction” as a theological category to describe my experience. I called it “discipleship” or “mentoring.” One key difference, however, is that when I met with either my directee or my director, our meetings were always within the context of a local church, that is, in the midst of doing life together. What was different from what I had known and experienced in the past is that a spiritual director could be someone who has not journeyed with me nor shares the same spiritual history. He or she could be a third-party person who helps you listen to God’s voice.

When I learned about the history of spiritual direction in pietism and the Evangelical Covenant Church, I was glad to see the deep historical roots of spiritual direction in a pietist spirituality. When August Hermann Prancke asked the question: “directed toward what?’(Spiritual Direction in Pietism and the Covenant Church: A Descant on Text and Life), I felt that this was the question I was asking as well. What is the goal of spiritual direction? When two people are meeting together in that space of listening to God together, what is the end which God has in mind?

The surprising answer that I discovered was: “toward fear, love and trust of God, or delicate fear.” It was surprising because fear has been misunderstood, and it is extremely difficult to discuss fear in today’s climate of anxiety and terror over COVID-19, economic crisis, and various political and racial tensions. The last thing anyone wants is more fear. But it is further clarified that what Prancke and other pietists encouraged is not bondage-fear, but rather childlike fear, which consists “in reverence for God’s promises, assurance of his presence, all in the context of an awareness of his pleasure or displeasure.” I felt that the pietists provided a clear sense of what the goal or aim is for spiritual direction. As I continue to meet with my director and my directees, I ask myself: Am I growing in, and growing towards, the delicate fear of God? Am I being aware of His pleasure? A metaphor that I came to love for a spiritual director is that of the Friend of the Bridegroom. My role is to bear witness to how the Bridegroom transforms the directees through His love and share in their fullness of joy together, as we both listen to the voice of the Bridegroom. Spiritual direction is also refining the acoustics of my heart to listen to God and help others to refine the acoustics of their hearts to hear God as well.

I grew up in California and “immigrated” to the Midwest in 2003. As a Cal Bear alumnus, I thought I would forever live and be buried in California. But God’s vision was that I go on an adventure with Him for an unspecified amount of time in the wilderness of the Midwest. I was educated at the C. John Weborg Center for Spiritual Direction at North Park Theological Seminary and served bi-vocationally in various ministry settings for over thirty years. I have a passion and heart to help lead people to experience deep intimacy with God and to experience the transforming power of the One who calls us the Beloved. I love to create space especially for women in ministry to hear God’s call and leading in their lives. I currently also work as an insurance litigation adjuster and have a heart for those whose vocation is in the marketplace. My husband and I have been married for 30 years and have two adult sons and currently live in Chicago.

Spiritual direction is for anyone yearning for God and it's such a joy and privilege for me to companion others on that journey. I completed my spiritual direction training through NewWay Ministries (Larry Crabb) in 2020, Sustainable Faith (May of 2021), and currently completing a Spiritual Direction for Children certificate through Companioning Center.

I hope to be a safe place where you can slow down, explore your own faith journey and longings, and respond to God. He is always at work and no matter what age, I hope that our times would give you clarity, courage, and feel the unconditional love of God.

I love that Jesus will show up in the midst of our wanderings reminding us that we are never alone on the paths we take and God holds our journeys with his presence, much like the story of the road to Emmaus. Spiritual direction has been described similarly to the scripture story of two friends on their way to Emmaus, where Jesus popped into their journey unbeknownst to them, listening to their grief and confusion, probing their hearts and souls to uncover hopes and promises, and remaining with them to breaking bread so that these two friends may arrive at a place of deep wonder and delight in the midst of so much uncertainty. It’s been a sacred experience in accompanying another on their journey with God as we uncover, explore or discover deeper truths, promises and hopes. It is also a humbling honor to be holding space for another as they navigate deep sadness, hurt and uncertainty and we can lean into God’s faithfulness to show up, present together. Being invited into another’s intimate relationship with God is truly a gift and a privilege I do not take for granted. I find that I am always nourished after a session of offering direction.

I am trained with Sustainable Faith Spiritual Direction School, currently, I offer individual and group direction sessions through WOW! for folks interested for themselves individually or for a group of friends, church or community. I believe spiritual direction is a practice and posture that reflects God's heart of hospitality. It is a space where we listen together to the Spirit with attentiveness to what makes the directee's soul come alive.

I came to discover spiritual direction in a season of my life where my director was instrumental in helping me discover and mine the treasures found in the darkness so that I could walk in greater freedom in the ways I was being invited to know and love God. Spiritual direction has helped root me in my identity while providing guideposts as I navigate my desire to serve Jesus and the Church alongside my husband's pastoral calling. Over the years, it has played a role in gathering all the gifts and graces of my journey through the hills and valleys and capturing glimpses of it being masterfully woven into something both messy and beautiful. I consider it an honor to be invited into anyone's journey with the Lord, especially in the role of a trusted spiritual companion. My hope is that each of our journeys will lead us to a greater knowing of our belonging in the Kingdom of God.

Erika received her spiritual direction certification from the School of Sustainable Faith and has been a retreatant in both the 18th and 19th Annotations of the Ignatian Exercises. She acknowledges and embraces the facts that she is the eldest first generation American Born Chinese in her entire family and an enneatype 9w1 shape her ongoing spiritual formation. Erika is compelled to live a full and spacious life in the midst of New York City with her husband, Jeff. She considers herself an unhurried explorer, competitive board gamer, avid puzzler, novice gardener, fun aunt, devoted friend of Jesus, and a child at heart. She serves as Executive Director of Wonder Aloud, a nonprofit ministry that accompanies people toward spiritual wholeness through sacred curiosity, care, and contemplative prayer.

I have compassion for those feeling disconnected from God. After finding healing through Christian counseling, I wanted others to experience the freedom and peace that comes from knowing that Jesus is with us in our past hurts, present life and glorious future. My journey led me to train as a Spiritual Director through Sustainable Faith. And in that process, I received more inner healing as well as practical skills to listen well and hold a safe space for those that need harbor in their journey.

I enjoyed learning how to be still with God through the 18th Annotation of the Ignatian Exercises and endeavor to move slowly in my New York City life as a wife, mother to two boys, church goer and friend. I have worked in the nonprofit space and financial services prior to becoming a Spiritual Director, and so I understand that workplace hurts are real and need God's tender care as well. I love spending time at the Met and Central Park because those spaces can be places of healing as well.

It is a privilege to accompany people as they attend to their life with God, Christ's work, and the Holy Spirit's leading and then discover greater freedom, peace, and joy. After seminary at Gordon-Conwell, I served as a campus minister for several years. I later pursued a certificate in Spiritual Direction from the PAX Center for Christian Spiritual Formation and I currently work as a minister of spiritual formation for Intervarsity New England. A few areas that I am passionate about include emotional/mental health, preventing ministry burnout, and being part of a global, diverse Church. I have a special place in my heart for cross-cultural workers and those experiencing burnout in ministry. When I am not working, I enjoy reading, playing soccer, hanging out with family and friends, and singing with my church worship team. I’m Kurt and I come alongside missionaries, Christian workers, and followers of Jesus, providing a safe place for an intermission. I do that through Spiritual Direction, Debriefing, and Soul Care.

My mission is to see you in a place where you are fulfilling your God-given calling with the wholeness of being what God intends you to be. I want to see you live and minister in a healthy, sustainable, and God-honoring way.

As a Spiritual Director, I walk alongside you, listen to you, and help you to listen to yourself. I create a safe environment for you to wrestle with and talk to God with your most honest self, listening to God together with you with openness and curiosity. I help you explore God’s presence, invitations, and your responses to His work in your life.

I have had the privilege of walking with Jesus for over 50 years, and delight to witness the work of Spirit in the lives of other human beings, each created in God's image.

Professionally, in addition to my spiritual direction certification through the Epiphany Academy of Formative Spirituality (Pittsburgh, PA), I am a certified embodiment coach and an ordained elder in the Free Methodist Church of N. America. I am a semi-retired seminary professor. (If "academic credentialing is of interest to you, I have several Master's degrees, including an MDiv., and also a Ph.D.)

Especially important in my personal formation have been that I:
- was raised as a "pastor's kid";
- was originally ordained in an urban (primarily black Pentecostal) church renowned for the ministry of racial, gender, generational, and socio-economic reconciliation;
- studied with Father Adrian van Kaam (a world-renowned theorist in formative spirituality, both human and Christian)
- have the privilege of close friendships with Hasidic Jewish people
- am a founding member of a church committed to modeling co-gendered Christian worship services

I taught spiritual formation for nearly two decades at Northeastern Seminary (Rochester, NY), and helped the seminary create an MA program in Spiritual Formation, as well as a program for an Advanced Certificate in Spiritual Direction ("Advanced" meaning that the program requires a certain theological rigor alongside specific training for the ministry of spiritual direction). Offering retreats, both in person and online, has been part of my calling for many years.

While the majority of my spiritual direction ministry has been in service of Christian leaders (pastors, chaplains, spiritual directors, etc.), it is my privilege to support anyone through the ministry of spiritual direction (including persons who do and do not consider themselves "Christian," people who identify as being on the autism spectrum, and people exploring gender and sexuality issues themselves or companioning family members who are doing so).

I identify as an Enneagram 1, Wing 9.
My primary dispositions, as witnessed to by others, are faith, joy, kindness, compassion, and non-judgmental curiosity.

I love to help people grow in greater intimacy with God. I received training as a Spiritual Director and an MA in Spiritual Formation & Soul Care from The Institute for Spiritual Formation at Talbot School of Theology in La Mirada, CA. I also hold an MA in philosophy and an MS in Clinical Psychology. I have also served in full-time pastoral ministry for nearly 20 years. About Me

I grew up in Ohio and live in South Carolina with my wife and our son. I currently minister part-time in the discipleship ministries of our church and meet with ministry leaders as a spiritual director.

I have been profoundly shaped by how the Lord has ministered to me through the ups and downs in various seasons of ministry, significant life transitions, times of doubt and fear and every-day life. The fact that Jesus has opened the way for us to walk WITH the Triune God has deeply impacted my own life.

After completing undergraduate and graduate degrees in cross-cultural studies, I served as a pastor and then as a global worker in Spain with a team who ministered to the North African community. After transitioning back to the U.S., I completed a two year spiritual directors training program through Selah (Leadership Transformations) in 2018.

I am a pastor at heart and approach spiritual direction as a response to the Lord’s call on my life to come alongside others in a way that helps support their own walk with Him through seasons of life and ministry. Over the years, I have ministered as a spiritual director to pastors, global workers and chaplains.

I am able to meet in person, by phone or by the video conferencing app of your choice. I also facilitate personal and small group prayer retreats.
