About Me

Have you ever notice how easy it is to put off doing things that would help you in the long run? This morning I finally got myself out the door for a walk. Obviously it is good for my physical health to walk, but it is also helpful for me spiritually. On a walk I have quiet space to hear from God. I need that in the midst of life, but I am quick to let little things get in the way of this priority.

I have found that there is much less effort involved in welcoming God when I have someone who is on that journey with me. Comfort and strength flowed into my life as I spent time in spiritual direction. Out of that came a passion to create safe spaces for other to experience growth and wellbeing in the presence of God.

My years as a mother, youth pastor’s wife and prayer ministry leader all prepared me for my training in spiritual direction. I completed a program at Evangelical Seminary. I also bring my interest and skills in art, creativity, and imagination into my direction.

As you read this, my prayer for you is that the Lord will give you wisdom and courage to take the next steps toward receiving spiritual direction.

Dan’s journey to becoming a spiritual director was through the unlikely door of civil engineering, the profession in which he had worked in for over 20 years. Following a season of serving as a missionary engineer in Uganda, Dan came to a greater awareness of his longing to accompany others on their journey to a greater attentiveness to the movements of God and a deepening intimacy with Him.
Currently on staff with Engineering Ministries International, Dan is involved with staff formation and member care through leading retreats, workshops and small group processes. Also a part time staff member with his local church, Dan leads a ministry of companionship that includes hosting soul care retreats and formational processes for individuals and small groups. He has completed two years of training with the Sustainable Faith Schools of Spiritual Direction (Denver cohort).
Dan, and his wife, Kim, reside in Colorado Springs and have three children. When he’s not spending time with family or enjoying a cup of coffee and a good book Dan enjoys hiking the many mountainous and forested trails throughout Colorado. Hi, I am Anja. I am in a cross cultural marriage and have 3 grown up kids. I was born in Germany and lived during my adult years in the Middle East, in Canada and in the U.K. where I was involved with Christian Mission work for the past 30 years.
I trained in relational Spiritual Direction with Deepen in Malaga where I discovered my calling to create space for folks in isolation, difficult places to grow in awareness of their loving saviour.
I also trained in Ignatian Spiritual Direction as well as supervision with the Jesuits at St’Beuno’s in Wales where I discovered my love for the Ignatian exercises. I'm Laura - a counselor and writer turned spiritual director. I'm glad you're here.

In the early years of my career, I'd never heard of spiritual direction. When I accidentally stumbled into a contemplative prayer class, I realized I had been longing for spiritual rest for a very long time.

In contemplative prayer, I was led into the "unforced rhythms of grace." I didn’t just consider Jesus; I met with Him. Before long, I was signing up for all the contemplative activities I could find. Formational prayer. Spiritual Direction. The 19th Annotation of the Spiritual Exercise of St. Ignatius. I was hooked.

After a while, I began teaching formational prayer classes and in May 2023, I earned my certificate in Spiritual Direction from Sustainable Faith.

Now, it’s my pleasure to offer direction to others. I happily direct anyone; however, if you are new to contemplation, burned-out on religion, or looking for trauma-informed direction, I have a special seat for you.

My deep hope and prayer is that I offer a safe place for God to speak to those drained dry by life, ministry, parenting or burdened by pressures of all kinds that drown out the voice of God.....or maybe just people who feel it's hard to find God right now. Spiritual practices can feel dry or desire for God is lacking. This ministry constantly humbles me, mostly because God always shows up (in spite of my own frailty), and it feels like a huge honor to be trusted by others to walk alongside them on their spiritual journey.

After graduating from Talbot, I've worked in a variety of capacities in churches and conference centers, teaching and mentoring people of all ages and stages. But eventually, and without my knowing, all the busy doing drained my soul. I felt stuck in a spiritually dry place with God. That began my own long journey away from guilt and shame and towards a new way of approaching my own quiet rhythms with a loving Father. Later I spent two years training with Christian Formation and Direction Ministries. I have completed additional training to lead people (individuals or small groups) through the 19th annotation of the Ignatian Spiritual Exercises or the retreat in daily life. I am a student of the wisdom of the Enneagram, especially as it applies to spiritual transformation. My ministry also involves the supervision and training of spiritual directors.

Spending free time with my dear husband, adult kids and my grandkids is extremely life-giving for me. Career-wise, I've worked part-time with families in independent study for 15 years. I'm also a lover of books and the beach (usually together) and a reluctant gym-rat. I am ever-blessed to have a small group of friends who put up my passion and fascination with the formation and care of the human soul as we travel this gift we call life.

My name is Matt Kessler. I lead a small non-profit in San Antonio, Texas dedicated to leadership coaching, spiritual direction, marriage care, and wilderness adventure trips. Spiritual Direction is a biblical form of Christian soul care that dates back to the earliest days of the church. It is a one-on-one relationship organized around Scripture, prayer, and conversations. It is an accompanied journey of the soul with the goal of spiritual renewal, transformation in Christ, and deeper union with God.

My first experience with spiritual direction came during one of the most difficult times I ever faced in ministry. Through Scripture reading, prayer, journaling, and weekly conversations with my spiritual director - the Lord met me, healed me, redeemed my pain, and breathed new life into my calling and ministry.

I was trained as a Spiritual Director through the Cenacle School of Spiritual Direction in Clearwater, Florida. As a spiritual director, it is my privilege to share all that has been so graciously invested in me to help others grow deeper in their relationship with God, self, and those around them.

I long for a vibrant and intimate relationship with God and have been profoundly touched by the relationships I’ve encountered along the way in my own spiritual journey. The art of listening and compassionate care; to walk alongside of another in life’s journey, is a unique experience, one that can be so life-giving. It’s my pleasure to companion souls as a spiritual director, as a spiritual friend.

I am a creative. I paint, design, craft, write, imagine, curate sacred experiences and enjoy the varied expressions of the human soul through the arts, literature, nature and "work" in the world. I've taken to heart the Apostle Paul's desire to "labor until Christ be formed in you" and find in it a way to describe my vocation in life. I've spent almost 10 years pastoring in at a local church and was enriched by shaping and curating a communal sacred experience for many in the congregation.

My education/training includes: MDIV (pastoral ministries), a MA (Spiritual Formation/Soul Care) both graduate degrees are from Talbot School of Theology. I've also received training in Ignatian spiritual exercises and retreat, Contemplative Spiritual Practices and the Enneagram, and training in vocation-formation facilitation of seminary small groups at Fuller Seminary. I have a rich and varied experience of serving God and his people through cross-cultural and local missional work, teaching in churches and universities, facilitating group and individual spiritual direction and retreats, and participation in community outreach.

I have acquired some unique training with elder/end of life, chronic illness and dementia care by way of my own life circumstances. I've had the privilege of walking my own family through trying seasons to assist our elder family members in their passing with dignity.

A core value that I hold as a spiritual director is the cultivation of hospitable space. Henri Nouwen's definition of hospitality has shaped me in profound ways. Nouwen says, "Hospitality means primarily the creation of free space where the stranger can enter and become a friend . . . Hospitality is not to change people, but to offer them space where change can take place.” It is my honor and joy to prayerfully hold safe space where growing self-awareness and self-discovery lead to finding the sacredness of one's own life story within God's Divine Story. EE Cummings said, “We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us something is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch.” As a spiritual director, my desire is to listen deeply, so the directee can experience the sacredness of her being and her story. Within the freedom of this safe space, together we listen to the Spirit and discern the presence and action of God in one's life.

I have served for over 25 years as staff in a Protestant missionary order as a trainer in spiritual formation and as mentor and coach. I was born in South Korea and immigrated to the US as a child. I have always been drawn to sit with others and listen deeply to their sacred stories. As I deepen my own journey into contemplative spirituality, I am drawn to the sacredness of each individual human being as created in God's image and to the sacredness of each person's unfolding life journey.

My heart is to provide a safe space for a wide range of individuals with various spiritual experiences and backgrounds through the Holy Spirit. It is my joy to walk with people in their journey of faith, help them recognize how God is present in their lives, and explore their personal prayer life and relationship with the Lord through vulnerability, transparency, and genuine conversation.

I graduated from Talbot School of Theology with my MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care. My training has granted me various opportunities to walk with a diverse group of individuals experiencing deconstruction, confusion, “dark night of the soul”, depression, anxiety, and trauma. My greatest desire is to be a hospitable presence to guide people in learning what it means to walk with the Lord, experience Spirit-led sanctification, and become more like Christ, from the inside out.

Through my own upbringing as a missionary's kid, I have been able to relate with fellow pastors' and missionaries’ kids who may have unique struggles and deep wounds and hurts. My own mission trip experiences to countries such as Syria, Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Sri Lanka, India, Lebanon, Greece, South Korea, and Cambodia, as well as my one-year student missionary experience in Turkey, have widened my worldview and perspectives on diversity, culture, and religion. My greatest passion of all is to utilize spiritual direction as a tool on the mission field, particularly in Middle Eastern nations.

I am passionate about discipleship, relationships, and helping people of all ages find God in their everyday. I am also eager to hold a safe space for those seeking healing and restoration from church or spiritual leadership wounds. In addition, my heart is to help church leaders and pastors who are feeling stuck, experiencing burn out, or unable to go deeper in their relationship with the Lord. I long for all believers to discover how we were created to be in relationship with God, and how our soul, heart, and spirit affect us as a whole.

It's been my privilege to serve in ministry with my husband, Tom, for nearly 40 years. After serving cross-culturally in SE Asia for 9 years, subsequent ministry has centered primarily on extending missionary care to those serving in a variety of contexts around the world.

My vision and love for ministry only deepened and expanded through my MA degree in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care, which I earned at Talbot School of Theology in 2014. After decades of ministry, I learned an entirely different way of sitting with others, and I'm grateful that there is now much much more of Jesus and much less of Sue in my ministry conversations.

Despite growing up a preacher’s daughter, I have often wondered why God was (or wasn’t!) allowing certain circumstances in my life. There have been plenty of times when I felt angry, hurt, confused and even abandoned by God. Yet through it all, I’ve seen His goodness and experienced His faithful, loving presence in the midst of pain and problems. I’ve also come to realize how vital it is to have the support of fellow pilgrims along the way, especially during times when God feels distant or confusing.

I want to help you, too, see God’s goodness and lovingkindness at work in the midst of your life. I want you to know how much and how deeply God loves you, and that He will work all things together for your good. It’s okay to be unsure or struggling in our walk with God. Through the process of listening and noticing His presence together, He will lead you into deeper understanding, healing and peace. I know this because I’ve seen it happen over and over again, in my own life and in the lives of those with whom I work.

Through the training program at Soul Shepherding, I learned how to wed my love of spirituality and emotional health, and was certified as a Spiritual Director in 2022. Prior to this, I obtained my doctorate from Rosemead School of Psychology, at Biola University, in 2000, and practiced as a licensed clinical psychologist for 20 years, specializing in trauma and adoption. Shortly after my husband and I had our first son in 2006, our family dealt with significant health issues. God used this to propel me into the world of alternative healthcare. I have since had additional training in numerous mind-body techniques that can be used to foster healing and increase our ability to both hear from and respond to our Heavenly Father.

My absolute favorite thing is to see people set free to have a renewed relationship with the triune God, and to more fully express their unique gifts and abilities in His Kingdom. I would love to journey with you on your path as we learn to revel in God’s goodness together!
