The act of pilgrimage has a storied history, with countless tales of folks walking long distances to places of spiritual significance. However, many could not – for a variety of reasons – embark on a pilgrimage like this. Stations of the Cross and Labyrinths emerged as ways for people to engage in the practice of pilgrimage in their own communities. Today, we continue to translate pilgrimage into our own contexts, responding to the call to wander with God in light of our own realities, so that we may be a witness to all we encounter along the way.
In this offering, pilgrimage guide and spiritual director, Jen Manglos, will:
Unpack the spiritual practice of pilgrimage
- Offer a brief history of pilgrimage and growing popularity of trails like the Camino de Santiago
- Explore the importance of our bodies and the physiological benefits of movement
And she will invite the group to consider together:
- How ancient practices of pilgrimage can be translated into our modern-day context
- How this embodied practice can accompany and be woven into our work as spiritual directors
- Simple ways to explore pilgrimage in our own places
As a spiritual director, pastor, and pilgrimage guide, Jen Manglos delights in helping others discover their own belovedness in God through an embodied, creative approach to spirituality. Since receiving her MA in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care from the Institute for Spiritual Formation at Talbot School of Theology she has moved into providing care and support for folks within (and sometimes on the margins) the ministry and nonprofit worlds. Her work includes providing support for pilgrims through coaching, trip guidance, and post-trip debriefing. She currently resides in Seattle where she is enjoying that PNW life.
