General Background
Brian is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God and endorsed as a Pastoral Care Chaplain with the Assemblies of God Chaplaincy Ministries. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and French from the US Military Academy, a master of divinity from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, a certificate of spiritual direction from The King’s Seminary, and is in progress (ABD) on a doctorate in Spiritual Formation and Direction.
Brian has been a ministry leader for over two decades. Before becoming a chaplain, Brian was an engineer officer in the Army and served in various ministry roles leading small group, young adult, and worship ministries. As an Army Chaplain, Brian served with a variety of organizations around the world, deployed multiple times to Afghanistan and in support of operations in Europe, lived in Korea, pastored diverse communities and contexts, and loved being with his soldiers and their families.
A Little More Personal
Since 2018, Brian’s personal journey has been especially impacted by spiritual direction. Brian began spiritual direction at a time in his life when he was managing PTSD, compassion fatigue, occupational burnout, and just a few weeks before his son’s birth and unexpected death. Through much wrestling with God and his interior life, Brian has received deep comfort that continues to shape his life. Spiritual direction has been a gift God has used as a significant part of his healing, deep comfort, and continued growth.
Brian’s wife, Aimee, was also an Army Chaplain. After being injured and retiring, she also became a Pastoral Care Chaplain. Together, they have a farm and homestead in Central Texas where they enjoy life with their daughters, nurturing their animals and land, being connected with creation and the Creator, and sharing life with others.
Spiritual Direction Focus
As a pastoral care chaplain and spiritual director, Brian serves a variety of people but especially loves supporting clergy and clergy families, supporting people with compassion fatigue and burnout, grief and navigating child loss, and people deconstructing their faith. He finds it a joy to join people wherever they are in life’s journey, learning what has happened, and seeing where God leads. His spiritual direction journey(personal and training) has been especially shaped by Celtic Christian and Ignatian spiritualities, so spiritual direction with Brian often includes elements from these. Brian meets with people virtually, at local venues in the greater Killeen and Georgetown areas, and at his farm an hour north of Austin near Florence, TX.
When he’s not playing with his kids or working on homestead projects, you might find Brian making music with his guitar, listening to a good audiobook, or enjoying the quiet of nature.
